For Chamber Ensemble.Commissioned by the Hebrides Ensemble and first performed on their Scottish tour in March 2010.In Seven Pierrot Miniatures I took the Commedia dell’arte character Pierrot as my primary sourceof inspiration. Other more tenuous links to Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire also served as a starting point in forming the general shape of the work. The piece is cast in seven short movements whereas the Schoenberg comprises threesets of seven movements. Although there is no part for voice I have taken seven poems by Albert Giraud (none of them set in Pierrot Lunaire) as points of departure:1. The Clouds2. Decor3. Absinthe4.Suicide5. The Church6. Sunset7. The HarpEach movement takes its impetus from the corresponding poem but in the piece as a whole I wanted to explore the extreme contrasts of the multi-faceted character ofPierrot in a musical setting. There is an almost mirror-like quality to the form of the piece and a sense of ending where it has begun: movements 1 3 5 and 7 are closely linked both in terms of their musical material and asense of melancholy dream-like quality and longing. Movements 2 and 6 are also strongly connected with allusions to the more mischievous violent side of Pierrot. Movement 4 serves as a sort-of pivotal point within the work juxtaposing a surreal shimmering calm with brutal outbursts. Par RHEINBERGER JOSEF GABRIEL. Rheinberger’s string quartets, his string quintet and his nonet for winds and strings were often performed and were very successful works during his lifetime. Their density, but also the delicateness of the scherzo movements are in the tradition of Schumann and Mendelssohn and these traits are combined with Rheinberger’s sense for the clear, defined structure of the movements and solid contrapuntal writing. The octet for winds and strings is published here for the first time and the nonet, which is actually a reworking of this octet that Rheinberger undertook some twenty years later, is also published in this volume. Rheinberger made major changes from the original octet and headded two new movements to the nonet. Both works show especially the interest and pleasure which he derived from the variety in the differentiation of colors in ensemble playing. The Thema mit Veränderungen op. 93, which until now has been known as a work for string quartet, is published here with the double bass part which Rheinberger later added./ Répertoire / Ensemble de Chambre

Delta for Saxofon Cello og Piano (2005). Programme note: Some of my works are created in several stages where an earlier work or movement are reborn or recomposed as part of a new work. For instance “Suite for Martin” (1967) for saxophone amplified accordion and prepared piano - used in a Danish documentary film “Kongens Enghave” - was rearranged by me in 2004 in a new instrumentation for saxophone cello and piano and named MELANCOLIA (duration 12 minutes) which became the third movement (with the title MALINCONIA) in an enlarged version from 2005 with the title DELTA (duration around 20minutes). A delta is be nature moving outwards or rather downwards downstream.This movement is characteristic for all three works mentioned. EUFONIA. In the first movement of DELTA the music changes from the light hearted and harmonious towards a darker sound.In the second movement NOSTALGIA this darker colour is intensified dominating the whole movement. MALINCONIA the third and last movement completes the direction downwards – during six shorter sections – going towards a black edged pessimism (and a “black sound”). Per Nørgård (2005)

'...The present collection has been conceived right from the outset so as to form an organic component of and a supplement to the teaching of solfeggio. The original text and their relevant translations have been omitted with the intention that the pedagogical aim namely that which is achieved through solmization could be proprely emphasized. There is hardly any need to recommend these pieces for cultivation. Luckily enough solfeggio has become so wide-spread and in particular singing canons has gained such popularity that its praise would suggest an irony of the same kind as Erasmus' eulogy of foolishness.
