Five choral songs. Par SCHONHERR CHRISTOPH. Since his earliest childhood, Christoph Schönherr has been fascinated by all things nautical. His cycle Von Schiffen, Meer und Wind (Of Ships, Sea and Wind) brings together verses by different poets that explore the sea in its various guises. The work's selected poems describe the vast ocean that can fill us with a deep sense of tranquility, but can also bring mortal danger with its storms and destructive waves. Boats, and especially sailing ships, are often associated with freedom, a sense of weightlessness, and security. But if we are caught in a storm at sea, we suddenly find ourselves at the mercy of nature. A Spotless Rose by Welsh composer Paul Mealor arranged for unaccompanied SSAA divisi chorus. The sublime harmonies of this piece were released on the album 'A Tender Light' that also featured his piece composed for the Royal Wedding. The moving melodies and dramatic dynamics of the vocal parts in A Spotless Rose create a subtle solemnity in the wash of the beautiful soprano and alto parts. Featuring a Piano part for rehearsal only the unaccompanied soaring of the choir will make a truly lasting impression on any audience. In the September 2015 issue of the Organists' Review DavidLindley writes that this piece 'encompasses a wide dynamic range and some high tessitura for sopranos as the music celebrates 'Mary purest maid' contrasting with the slow-moving chordal setting of the rest of the text.'

Fairest Lord Jesus-Eatnemen Vuelie is the opening musical number for the 2013 Disney animated feature Frozen. The song is inspired by indigenous Saami and Norwegian culture and was written and composed by Norwegian composer Frode Fjellheim. The song is a combination of Saami yoiking and the Danish Christmas hymn 'Dejlig erjorden'/'Fairest Lord Jesus'. 'Yoik' is a very old vocal tradition among the Sami people of Scandinavia and Russia. Several superb settings of this moving poem by Sara Teasdale precede this one but Kevin Memley has earned the reputation to take us somewhere new even with classic texts. Premiered at the ACDA Western Convention this SSAA setting with piano is entirely new and gratifying. Always melodic and harmonically fulfilling this new setting works best for advanced high school college and community treble choirs. Medium.

Sixteenth composer John Farmer was a composer of church music and madrigals of which Fair Phyllis is the best known and most frequently performed. The finely textured work employs lightly skipping counterpoint in the ‘Up and down’ passages and an expressive change of time signature in the ‘kissing’ section.
