For this centenary publication Professor Peter Dickinson who knew Berkeley and his work for many years has brought together for the first time the complete solo piano output including hitherto unpublished pieces. He hasexmained sources and corrected previously published versions as well as completing the set of 'Three Dances' which the composer left only partly arranged for piano from his unknown ballet score of 1932. Aulos to a certain degree continues Orbán's easy piano pieces for children, which he composed for Ágnes Lakos's piano tutor and which Editio Musica Budapest published in a separate volume entitled Enchanted Forest in 2011 (Z. 14742). Yet on this occasion the composer took on something which was both significantly different and more than his earlier pieces for children. On the one hand, he did not compose for beginners but for more advanced students who have studied piano for at least three years. On the other, he did not set developing the technique of piano playing as an aim, rather a systematic presentation of different polyphonic genres and compositional procedures (imitation, fugue, stretto, inversion, augmentation and diminution, double counterpoint, latent polyphony, double and triple fugue, cantus firmus technique, etc.). Orbán introduces his students to the mysteries of polyphony in a direct and practical manner, and thus actually makes them familiar with the art of composition.The educational use of the series is significantly increased by the fact that before each piece the composer presents and clarifies with demonstrative illustrations the polyphonic procedure he introduces. Orbán's explanations are not text-book-like at all, but are deliberately personal and subjective, full of lessons and individual associations taken from his practice as a composer. They were written in the same spirit as the works themselves - while they perfectly fulfil their educational purpose they are equally individual, witty and inspired pieces of music that are a joy to play. / Piano

50 Easy Pieces from 5 Centuries. Par . For the Easy Concert Pieces series, the experienced piano teacher Monika Twelsiek compiled pleasant, easy piano pieces for beginners and published them in three volumes in progressive order. The three volumes are intended to complement a piano tutorial method and are particularly suitable for performance at auditions at music schools, for examinations and for competitions. They offer varied repertoire in a broad selection of pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras. Volume 1 (ED 22547) can already be used by beginners, containing pieces in the five-note range and easy pieces spanning a single octave. Other criteria for selection are simple rhythms and very easy chords. Crossing the thumb underneath, playing several parts together and pedal use are not yet required. Volume 2 (ED 22548) contains pieces with an extended range of two octaves. Crossing the thumb under, pedal use, simple polyphony and three- or four-part chords all feature here, as do simple ornaments, cantabile playing and differentiating between melody and accompaniment. Volume 3 (ED 22549) is aimed at advanced players who wish to refine their expression and personal interpretation. Programme note Tre Magdalene strofer / Three Magdalena Stanzas  (1991/1994) for piano solo. Paraphrase over '3 Magdalena Songs' to texts (in Danish) by Hanne Groes:  I. PRIVATION  II. DEPARTURE  III. MEETING  Rosalind Bevan was really the originator of this piece since she urged me to write a piano version of my “Magdalena Songs” (to Hanne Groes texts in Danish) which she so often had accompanied.  Moved by Rosalind's interest in the two contrasting songs (Kaldedrømme (´Calling Dreams) “Sent Møde (´LateMeeting) I wrote this little suite of Magdalena Stanzas for the piano. As the titles suggest the arche-typical 'longing for fulfilment'-motive (or ´longing´ and ´fullfilment´) is in focus.  Less obvious is it that the two tunes supplement each other (as the famous 'Rubin vase-and-profiles'-complementarity manifest visually). The Collaborative Artist-Composed by Randall Faber this work was commissioned by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) to feature and promote collaborative music. It premiered at the 2016 MTNA National Conference in San Antonio TX on April 3 2016. A listener may presume the Three Characters to be portrayed by the three instruments of the trio. Instead the characters manifest in the unfolding sections of the work ultimately depicting three aspects of the human persona: serenity emotion and action. The simplicity of the opening develops with hint of a plaintive call. The middle section settles in rhythmically to present emotional reaching to the divine and the divine reaching down. Thefinal section a chromatic fugue weaves an unrelenting twelve-tone subject with the plaintive theme in a forward drive of raucous activity.
