Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. Since their publication in the New Mozart Edition, Mozart's sonatas K. 10–15 count as piano trios. Furthermore, the title of the first edition, published by father and son Mozart in 1765 reads 'Six Sonates pour le Clavecin qui puevent se jouer avec l'accompagnement de Violon ou Flaute Traversiere”. In other words, these pieces are harpsichord sonatas that may be accompanied at will by a violin or a transverse flute. In a partial press run of the first edition a cello part was included. Our new edition is the first to take these conflicting formats into account by presenting two separate versions, one being the unaltered harpsichord part, the other a full score with separateinstrumental parts for violin/flute and cello. The harpsichord part [CV 51. 010/10] is indeed capable of standing by itself and requires no instrumental expansion. The melody instrument, in contrast, merely function as an accompaniment or contribute brief interjections, or, in the case of the cello, reinforce the left hand of the keyboard. Volume 1 comprises 3 of these 6 beautiful sonatas by Handel which have been edited with a realised keyboard accompaniment by Erich and Elma Doflein. These sonatas can be played with a cello or viola da gamba continuo or they can be played with a keyboard accompaniment. The solo violin and cello (viola da gamba) continuo parts are also included on separate inserts.

Maurice Ravel's 1922 composition Sonate In Four Parts for Violin and Cello was dedicated to the memory of Claude Debussy.

In 1920 Maurice Ravel was asked by his publisher Durand to contribute to an issue of La Revue Musicale dedicated to Claude Debussy. A supplement included the first movement of Ravel?s Sonata as well as works contributed by Debussy?s friends Stravinsky Satie Dukas Bartok and de Falla to name only a few. This 1st movement of Ravel?s Sonata of which the autograph is lost then developed into a large scale four movement chamber music work utilizing a more modern music vocabulary than found in almost any other Ravel composition. Bärenreiter?s scholarly-critical edition the first ever of this masterpiece presents the work in two performing scores. It contains anintroduction on the history of the work reflecting Ravel?s work and rehearsals with violinist Hélène Jourdan-Morhange and cellist Maurice Maréchal. Sources for this new edition include the engraved copy the personal autograph scores (with earlier versions of some passages) which were used to rehearse the work and the first edition scores with emendations by Jourdan-Morhange and Maréchal. Included in the appendix are the original fingerings by the performers which are not found in the first edition. They reflect how Ravel must have heard the work in rehearsals and as such are a document of early 20th century performance practice.
