Drop drop slow tears was written for The Arcadian Singers of Oxford University for a recording in 2002. The work is set in a simple three-verse format beginning with upper voices whose melting harmonies are intended to convey dropping tears. The second verse sung by lower voices is more urgent but subsiding to a serene final verse. This first work in the choral series Songs of the World (edited by Andre de Quadros) is by Leong Yoon Pin one of Singapore's most-known composers. It is a spectacular rhythmic dance filled with percussive vigor. Overall this piece is rather advanced but well worth the effort.
