Waltz for Betz (1999) is, as one might assume, a waltz dedicated to someone named Betz. It is a gentle, passionate ballad--Erik Satie by way of Henry Mancini--originally composed for solo piano as a musical Valentine's Day card. Waltz for Betz now exists in multiple arrangements for virtually every instrument: with piano accompaniment; with string quartet or string quintet accompaniment; and with string orchestra accompaniment. In 2006, it was released in its version for viola and string orchestra by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra on the ABC Classics label in Australia, where it continues to enjoy frequent radio play. In 2009, violist Michelle LaCourse recorded Waltz for Betz on her CD, Chocolates--Music for Viola and Piano by James Grant, on the MSR Classics label. In 2011, it was recorded by Tim Buzbee in its version for tuba and piano and released on Albany Records. And in 2012, clarinetist William Helmers released Waltz for Betz in a version for clarinet and string quintet, on his Potenza Records release, High Autumn.

Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen & Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The horn lessons offer horn -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts. In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians!

Kai Nieminen's music has been described as often constructed according to a narrative logic, as fantasy journeys in imaginary or dream-like worlds. Most of his works have an extra-musical stimulus, alluded to in their titles. They are not, however, really programmatic music, being constructed according to their own musical laws. The titles do nevertheless reflect the original stimuls and provide something of a guideline to the listening experience. The initial inspiration may be in literature or art, or equally well in an urban streetscape or nature. Arioso for solo horn is dedicated to the memory of Holger Fransman, the now-late grand old man of Finnish horn circles. The work can be performed also with four horns.

The virtuosic Hymnos II challenges its player with quick staccato motifs and heroic melodies in the instrument's upper register.
