Two Shakespeare Songs were written in 1989-1990. Cry Cock-a-Doodle-Doo was written first and is scored for Soprano Voice and Piano. It takes its text from a song by Ariel in The Tempest. The Witches’ Song is for solo Soprano with the text coming from Macbeth. Both are dramatic works which allow the performer to showcase her virtuosity; either would be a perfect audition piece or both could be combined as complementary items on a recital programme. Alison Bauld (b. 1944) is an Australian-born composer and writer who lives and works in London. Her compositions are distinguished by their dramaticstructure partly inspired by musical theatre. She has also written a three-volume tutor for keyboard and composition.

Testo Cantato In Italiano-Madama Butterfly took wing under turbulent circumstances. The premiere (Milan Teatro alla Scala 17 February 1904) was a disaster; while a second production only months later (Brescia Teatro Grande 28 May 1904) was instead a resounding success. Inthe intervening period the composer had made considerable changes to the score enough that the result qualifies as a ?second version?. Still other changes were to come however as the opera toured in successive productions. The definitive version which is reflected in this edition was produced in 1906 at the Opéra Comique in Paris and published by Ricordi the following year. Puccini thus invested considerable effort into the creation of his favorite opera ? and into shaping the fate of theheroine herself a manifestation of the extremes of patient waiting and steadfast love. The music is a complete and masterful expression of the pity and disillusionment that surround the figure of Cio-Cio-San: her absolute but misguided hope herpathetic pretence in the name of love her miserable demise.

Soft Cover ed 1960-Verdi's tenth Opera Macbeth had its premiere at the Teatro alla Pergola in Florence on 14 March 1847. That the composer himself had a high opinion of the work is confirmed both by his correspondence and by his dedication of the vocal score to his father-in-law Antonio Barezzi.Seventeen years later long after Macbeth had firmly established itself in the repertoiry of Italian and foreign theatres Verdi agreed to revise the Opera for its first Paris production at the Theatre-Lyrique on 21 April 1865. The revisions were far more extensive than he had initially anticipated but the self-criticism he brought to the processindicated his continuing belief in the viability of the Opera. The Paris premiere of the revised version was not a success and even after the publication of a vocal score of the 1865 Opera many Italian theatres continued to perform the original version. Nevertheless since Verdi considered the revisions definitive Ricordi chose to market the 1865 version which has thereafter always remained in the catalogue.

Della Seta - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte-Composed in 1818 on commission from an unknown individual in Lisbon Adina was left to languish some years until its premiere in 1826 with a single performance in that city remaining virtually the only one on record until the opera's revival in 1963. The present vocal score is based on the critical edition of the orchestral full score prepared by Fabrizio Della Seta and published by the Fondazione Rossini of Pesaro in collaboration with Casa Ricordi. This Edition reconstructs for the first time the structure of the autograph score which reflects the collective contributions of at least five different hands: having composed only four entirely new numbers andrepurposed another three from Sigismondo Rossini relied upon collaborators and copyists for the remainder of the music. Della Seta's detailed examination of this fundamental document (housed at the Fondazione Rossini) together with an informed assessment of the secondary sources including a complete manuscript copy (housed at the British Library in London) various manuscript vocal parts with Rossini's autograph interventions (housed in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels) and the first edition of the vocal score published by Ricordi between 1855 and 1859 additionally reveals how the libretto printed in Lisbon for that single historic performance in 1826 differed substantially from the narrative disposition of the autograph score with ample cuts and modifications (among those the suppression of the Aria Alì and the addition of a Coro). While neither attributable to Rossini himself nor pertaining to his original conceptual design of the opera this Coro the music of which survives in the first vocal score is included as an Appendix to the edition.

Ed. critica di M. Talbot - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte di A. Frigé-The present volume contains all three settings by Vivaldi of the Marian antiphon Salve Regina that have come down to us. All three are for solo voice: soprano in the case of RV 617 and contralto in that of RV 616 and RV 618. The last two settings are scored for two instrumental cori and introduce woodwind instruments respectively a flute and a pair of oboes whereas the instrumentation of the first is confined to strings disposed in a single coro although a solo violin is employed in three movements. RV 617 preserved in a non-autograph source in Brno belongs to Vivaldi?s first period of sacred music composition at the Pietà (1713-1717) while RV 616 and RV 618 are works of his maturity dating from the years around 1730. RV 617 is laid out in four movements RV 616 and 618 in six movements. All three works are noteworthy for the tenderness of their expression and skilful writing for both the voice and the instruments. The Introduction and Critical Commentary for these vocal scores prepared by Antonio Frigé are closely based on those of the Critical Editions by Michael Talbot published in 1998 1990 and 1994.
