Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1985) is beyond dispute one of his greatest works. Its finest attributes are its rich melodic invention, colourful instrumentation and immediate message. Add to these its rewarding solo part, and the result is truly one of his best concertos ? and works. He himself did not hesitate to regard it as such. It was premiered in Helsinki on September 16, 1985, having been completed at Ljugarn on the Swedish island of Gotland at the end of June. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Leif Segerstam, and the soloist was the concerto?s dedicatee, Mikael Helasvuo. The Flute Concerto opens with a Ritornello in which the flute's playful, dance-like passages make sharp contrast with the orchestra's heroic stance. In the mellow Canzona which follows, the flute plays rhapsodically over repetitive orchestral figures. The work's 'action-packed' finale hints at parody in its military march-like opening, but also gives rein to the lyricism already familiar from the second movement. The Study Score for Simon Holt's Morpheus Wakes a concerto for Flute or Alto Flute and Orchestra. Commissioned by BBC Radio 3 this work was first performed at the BBC Proms on 27th July 2014 at theRoyal Albert Hall in London. A full performance lasts around 15 minutes. Morpheus Wakes is a Flute concerto in two movements. In the first the soloist plays the Alto Flute before switching toFlute for the second.

Illuminations - Capriccio For Flute And Orchestra was composed by Erik Norby in 1977. Programme Note:The title should rightly be pronounced in French (same spelling) as the piece was composed for and is dedicated to French flute virtuoso Jean-Pierre Rampal who premiered ILLUMINATIONS in connection withhimreceiving the Danish Sonnings Musikpris in 1978.The title reflects my endeavour to create different illuminative effects in sound for which the flute is an excellent medium with its apparent ability to transform lightphenomena into musical shapes. Tue music in ILLUMINATIONS sometimes sounds like glitteringreflections sometimes like a roaring bonfire. The absence of ordinary flutes in the orchestra further enables the soloist to shine above a darker orchestral background. Despite his studies being interrupted by WWI Jacques Ibert won the Grand Prix de Rome on his first attempt proving his significant compositional ability such as his Concerto for Flute and Orchestra. Ibert's Concerto for Flute was composed in 1934 at the height of his professional career. The work is lighthearted depicting the composer's favoured use of gentle humour and festivity. These are however contrasted by lyrical and evocative passages. Suitable for advanced level flautists and containing the full orchestral score this edition of Ibert's Concerto for Flute is a clear pleasant and varied addition to the Flute's repertoire.

Out of this outcry, the solitary flautist and soprano singer reflect on the question of sin, judgement and punishment. In thismost hauntingly vulnerable aria, Bach manages to find both beauty and fragility to reflect upon this question. Using the parts provided, this arrangement can be performed as either a quartet with 3 C Flutes and Alto Flute, or as a quartet with 3 Alto Flutes and Bass Flute. pour flûte ou violon et piano-Camille Saint-Saëns completed the Romance in D Flat Major on 25 March 1871. If in his concertos for solo instrument and orchestra Saint-Saëns freed himself from the Viennese classical model (reconfiguring it with originality but in the light certainly of the formal experimentations of Schumann and of Biedermeier virtuosity) in the Romance opus 37 and other works of similar form (opus 27 36 and 48) he adopted the Romantic ternary Liedform (A–B–A) – in particular that of Schumann’s Stücke and Mendelssohn’s Lieder ohne Worte – and transcended the idiomaticity of the respective solo instruments nowinterchangeable ad libitum (Flute or Violin in the case of opus 37) thereby making the pieces more widely usable and emphasizing their cantabile quality.
