In 18 volumes it spans two centuries and six geographical regions, presenting a broad and balanced view of the main forms, styles and composers. Within each geographical region the pieces, most of which are for manuals only, are arranged by date of composition or publication. The presentation is both scholarly and practical; all of the music has been newly edited from the earliest surviving sources according to a systematic editorial method that preserves as many features of the original notation as possible while making it fully accessible to modern players. J. S. Bach (1685-1750) was a German Baroque composer who is revered for the originality and skill of his contrapuntal and harmonic techniques. He spent most of his life working as an organist and choirmaster but was also employed as a composer a many different Royal Courts. However his skill as an organist and composer for Organ is what gained him the reputation he enjoyed during his lifetime.This is perhaps epitomised by his Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor (BWV 542) often referred to as the Great Fantasia and Fugue. It has been edited by Sir Frederick Bridge and James Higgs.

David Bednall's Fanfare-Processional for Organ. Composed 2010. 'A work that reflects a constant revivific­ation of tradition - most notably in the expected treatment of D major tonality (not fully resolved at the end) - this brilliantly effective piece successfully combines the essence of a church procession with elation: the tempo is relatively (but only relatively) slow the musical expression being of a positive character making a modem recessional as if preparing to leave the church before breathing in fresh open air in the concluding section. Bednall's work is extremely well written technically; it would make an exciting effecton any uplifting occasion.' - James Palmer
