The musical text is as faithful to the sources as possible, and it preserves Bach?s graphic idiosyncrasies in the beaming of eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Furthermore, the chorales are reproduced on three staves, which is fully in keeping with the practice of the Bach era ? but not with the source, however, since the composer himself notated the pieces of the ?Orgelbüchlein? on two staves, either for reasons of economy or for lack of space. The enclosed CD-ROM contains early versions and anonymous arrangements which should encourage organists to explore this repertoire in greater depth.

These 30 pieces were written by Herbert Howells as exercises and piano sight-reading tests. They are however much more than visual traps for the unwary. Now here's a new idea: instead of asking our composers to work their improvisatory magic on hymn tunes we allocated the main theme of some of the world's favourite classical melodies. The result is a really pleasing new genrewhich we think will find favour with organists. All the pieces are written for those with a moderate technique and there are two versions - with or without pedals.

This is a marvellous collection of pieces by Henry Purcell newly arranged for the Organ by concert organist Martin Setchell. Purcell's music is perfectly suited to the Organ and a number of his pieces have long been popular with players. This volume brings together a range of well-known pieces - trumpet tunes the Rondeau from Abdelazer Dido's Lament and movements from The Fairy Queen - and combines these with a wonderful selection of lesser-known pieces from across Purcell's work. Johannes Brahms?s organ works in a sense ?frame? his whole oeuvre. He wrote several preludes and fugues and the chorale prelude ?O Traurigkeit o Herzeleid? in the mid-1850s at a time when he was making an intensive study ofcounterpoint. The Eleven Chorale Preludes op. 122 on the other hand are Brahms?s final work composed in 1896 immediately before and after the death of Clara Schumann. This revised Henle Urtext edition presents all of Brahms?sorgan works in a single volume following the musical text of the New Brahms Complete Edition and with a preface and a commentary that reflect the latest scholarship.
