Internationally renowned minimalist Philip Glass composed this Piano concerto in the traditional three-movement form. The first movement titled ‘The Vision’ is classic Glass with a steamroller quality that suggests the immensedrive and ambition the two explorers needed to draw on for their journey into the wilderness. At the beginning of the second movement the theme in the solo Indian Flute musically represents the name ‘Sacajawea’ the ShoshoneIndian mother and guide who assisted the explorers on their way for whom the movement is named.The final movement entitled ‘The Land’ is an exploration of expansiveness both of the land that was being explored but also of thegeologically expanded time over which the landscape has evolved and the great changes that followed Lewis and Clark’s journey.This concerto is designated as part of The Concerto Project recording series started by Glass in theyear 2000 currently in four volumes and including eight concerti.American composer Philip Glass is widely known as one of the most celebrated influential and prolific of the modern composers. for Woodwind Quintet-These two extraordinary works of late Mozart KV 594 and KV 608 were both composed to fulfill a commission for a memorial exhibit in Vienna to be played in a “mechanical clock organ.” The term “fantasy” or“fantasia” came to be affixed to these works later and is more descriptive and less cumbersome than the term Mozart listed in his own catalogue “Ein Stüke für ein Orgelwerk in ein Uhr.” They are also variouslytitled “Adagio und Allegro in f für ein Orgelwerk” and “Allegro und Andante (Fantasie in f) für eine Orgelwaltze.”The first of these composed between the monumental String Quintet in D and the Piano Concertoin Bb KV 595 is an A-B-A form comprised of an f minor Adagio opening and closing with a contrapuntal Allegro at its heart. KV 608 is more complicated opening with an f minor section reminiscent of a French Overture followed by a fugue in fminor then an Andante aria followed by a return to the opening and then a more complex version of the fugue.Despite the frustration that Mozart expressed (in a letter to Constanze) with the sound world of these mechanical devices KV 594and 608 are remarkable works which stand at an intersection incorporating what he learned about counterpoint studying at the foot of Bach while looking ahead to the emotional and harmonic poignancy of Schubert.

One of Leos Janácek’s last chamber music works was written in the autumn of 1926 at the suggestion of the pianist Otakar Hollmann (1894–1967) an invalid from the First World War. Like his contemporary Paul Wittgenstein Hollmann urged composers to write something for Piano left hand; he succeeded in winning over Bohuslav Martinu Erwin Schulhoff and Janácek to do this. Janácek did not want as he put it to compose a “dance for one leg” but finally wrote a four-movement work with associations to military music scored for Piano Flute (Piccolo) two Trumpets three Trombones (preferably valveTrombones because of the fast passages) and a tenor Tuba. The French Horn was allowed by the composer to substitute the Tuba. The Capriccio was premiered by Otakar Hollmann and members of the Czech Philharmonic in Prague on 2 March 1928 in the presence of the enthusiastic composer. The new edition is based on volume E/5 of the “Critical Complete Edition of the Works of Leos Janácek ”. Urtext based on the “Critical Complete Edition of the Works of Leos Janácek”.
