Satie, der kaum eine fundierte musikalische Ausbildung genossen hatte und fast zeit seines Lebens in Paris lebte, entwickelte einen neuen musikalischen Stil, in bewusster Abkehr vom 'Wagnerisme' seiner Zeit.
