A setting of a nativity poem from 'Her Maker?s Maker' by Michael Symmons Roberts 'New-made for a king' was commissioned by Andreas Klatt for Farnham Youth Choir. Scored mainly in four parts the choral texture is homophonic the harmony rich yet approachable by young performers with a decorative piano accompaniment. In the mould of a lullaby the piece?s over-riding calm is troubled towards the close by indistinct pp lontano interjections from the piano in response to the poem?s portentous closing words.

O Radix Jesse by Polish composer Pawe ukaszewski is arranged here for unaccompanied SSAA Chorus with divisions. Pawe ukaszewski is part of a younger generation of Polishcomposers who specialise in sacred and choral music. After studying composition and receiving two Ph.Ds ? ukaszewski's work has been performed throughout Europe and the rest of the world. Thiscomposition ?O Radix Jesse is a setting of the Magnificant antiphons used in Christian advent and Catholic Mass.? The haunting harmonies created by the unaccompanied chorus inthis composition are sure to remain with audiences for a long time having been intricately crafted by this master of spiritual music. David Lindley in the September 2015 issue of the Organists' Review writes that? ukaszewski's music 'is often compared to that of Górecki Pärt and John Tavener and this piece manifests thefamily resemblance.'

The ?Gloria? RV 589 is one of Vivaldi?s most popular compositions today and one of the most regularly performed sacred vocal works from the Baroque era. The work was in all probability composed around 1716 during Vivaldi?s time at the Ospedale della Piet an orphanage for girls in Venice.Although Vivaldi?s ?Gloria? (BA 8953) was written for solo voices and mixed choir it is likely that it was performed at the girls? orphanage with female voices only. Taking this into account Malcolm Bruno?s careful arrangement for choir SSAA is of some relevance. The work when set for female voices or children?s choir remains a true masterpiece.The?Kyrie? RV 587 (BA 8954)for two choirs and two string ensembles as arranged here for female choir displays its own charm. It can be performed together with the Gloria as a type of short mass.Both arrangements are based on the recently published Urtext editions of these works. Schubert is ranked among the greatest composers of the late Classical era and early Romantic era and is one of the most frequently performed composers of the early nineteenth century.Schubert composed his ‘Mass No. 2 in G major’ in less than a week (March 2 to 7 1815). Transient Glory Series-Boatmen’s Song was inspired by a folk song from northern China which was used by the boatmen as they towed their boats along the river. As this means of propulsion is now consigned to history only the musicremains; however the hand-clapping and nonsense words still reflect the unending turmoil and unrest of the river. Bright Sheng is a contemporary Chinese composer who settled and studied in America following theCultural Revolution. He is known for writing down traditional Chinese tunes and folk songs in a western style. Boatmen’s Song was commissioned by The Yong People’s Chorus of New York and scored for aprofessional children’s choir or a women’s chorus with Harp and Percussion.

Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine has all the emotional appeal and refined elegance that one associates with its composer and has a cherished place in the repertory of both sacred and secular choirs. This arrangement for upper voices remains as faithful to the original as possible.

Uses: General ConcertScripture: Psalm 31:1-5; Psalm 57:8-10; Psalm 101Rising with power and based on Psalm 101 this piece affirms our commitment to praise. The main theme is a syncopated series of declarative gesturestoggling between unison strength and harmonic expressiveness. A prayerful middle section explores a new key and includes a striking minor section. One final alleluia adds a musical exclamation point to this festive statement.
