J'ai ainsi composé Pulsars pour deux flûtes puis Orange and yellow, hommage à Morton Feldman pour deux altos, Orange and yellow II qui est une transcription pour deux violoncelles de la pièce précédente, Dans le jour loin pour deux sopranos sur un poème d'Alexis Pelletier et Séléné, hommage à Maurice Ohana pour deux guitares. Et récemment, j'ai écrit Vif-argent pour deux harpes ! D'une manière générale ces oeuvres, conçues pour deux instruments ou deux voix identiques, apparaissent comme des compositions 'stéréophoniques'. Les deux parties sont égales et sans hiérarchie et elles utilisent le même matériau en s'échangeant même des motifs. Vif-argent est l'ancien nom du mercure et j'avais sa double caractéristique - solide et fluide ou métallique et mobile - à l'esprit lorsque je composais cette partition. Sans oublier que le dieu grec Hermès (...Mercure chez les romains) est l'inventeur de la lyre ! Mais la cristallisation sur ce titre s'est définitivement produite à la lecture de cet extrait de Ulysse de Joyce dans la traduction d'Auguste Morel : «...L'ombre des forêts flottait dans la paix du matin entre la tour et la mer que regardait Stephen. Au creux de la baie et au large blanchissait la mer miroitante, éperonnée par des pieds fugaces et légers. Sein blanc de la mer nébuleuse. Les accents enlacés deux à deux.
