A totally hip funk tune with a swing sixteenth note feel that really lays right in the groove and every section gets a chance to shine. Your drummer will love the alternating measures of drum fills and ensemble kicks that build with intensity into the trumpet soli feature that in turn explodes into an open solo section for any soloists. Includes a guitar help sheet that includes tablature for licks and chord shape. A great closer that will make good bands sound even better! Really cooks!

This is a great chart to feature your drummer and the entire ensemble! Starting out with a bombastic Eastern-sounding introduction (ala Genghis Khan), it then launches into a hard-driving minor blues stated by the trombone, trumpet and tenor saxophone. There is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and drums with exciting ensemble figures throughout. This chart provides lots of room for your drummer to solo and fill. 5-4-4-3.

This is a lovely, cool, easy-swing chart that explores linear material as written for and recorded by the North Texas One O'clock Lab Band (Lab 2013). Flute and bass clarinet doubles are required, and the drummer is featured throughout with brushes. This piece has the feel of a theme and variations, and contains very rich harmonies and voicings. 5-4-4-4.

Rich DeRosa has created a marvelous Latin composition in a baião feel that is recorded by the North Texas Two O'Clock Lab Band. It comes out of the gate roaring. The very hip melody is stated by flute, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, trumpet and piano. There is plenty of room for improvisation with soloists of your choice, including space for your drummer and any other percussion you might choose to add. The ending of the piece is wild and always brings audiences to their feet! 5-4-4-4 (opt. vibes).

James Miley brings us an original, fresh and fun-to-play composition titled Swing State. This is another great Oliver Nelson chart (it swings like crazy!). It starts in 3/4 and then goes to 4/4 and has a wonderful feel and flow as it moves through the different sections. The piece has very limited brass ranges with some optional octave writing in the trumpet 1 part. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, piano and drums. This big band arrangement was adapted by Bob Curnow from the original small band version as recorded on Oliver Nelson Plays Michelle (Impulse). 5-4-4-4.

This is a wonderful chart, an old tune in a new dress, as only Bill Holman can do it. It's the exact chart as recorded by the terrific Charlie Barnet Big Band. The tempo is bright, a swinging excursion into the clever writing of Holman. Solo space for piano, alto, tenor, trumpet, and drums. There is a great sax section soli and the usual, wonderful, roaring ensemble shout choruses. A big finish ends an amazing chart. 5-5-4-4 (4 tpts. work just as well).
