The lead-coloured skies being a recurring sight. The ambiguity in the title reflects both hope and dread. Beethoven’s light shines through strong and full of life! The piece was commissioned by the Engegård Quartet in 2011 and appears the recording String Quartets vol IV: Schubert-Ratkje-Britten-Haydn. A later piece was composed for string orchestra: 'Tale of Lead and Frozen Light' (2014)'. James Weeks' Cornish String Music for any number of orchestral string instruments (at least 16). Score. Cornish String Music was first performed by participants at the CoMA Summer School High Melton Doncaster on 7th August 2015.  

Composed in the summer of 1984 Yorkshire Ballad was premiered at the Kansas Bandmasters Association Convention by Claude T. Smith and the Kansan Intercollegiate Band. Since its publication it has become one of the composer'smost popular works and has been arranged for a variety of ensembles. The composer writes “I composed this little piece so that younger players would have the opportunity to play a piece that is more or less in the style of(Grainger's) Irish Tune from County Derry.”
