Postcards was written in 1991 for the Vega Wind Quintet who first performed it at the Huddersfield Festival in the same year. It is a reworking of a set of eight Bagatelles written in 1965: each movement has been rewritten and enlarged to a greater or lesser extent. The title was chosen to emphasise the nature of the pieces which are in a sense brief postcards from different genres (fugato dance etc). John McCabe (1939-2015) was a British composer pianist and music administrator. He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and built a career as a virtuoso pianist. However he also wrote several hundred musical compositions ranging from large-scale orchestral works to chamber music and solo instrumental pieces - it is said the only classical genre he did not write for was opera. 

Mixed Bag No. 29-Mixed Bag. This highly acclaimed series provides a real opportunity for woodwind players of mixed ability to play together. It will work with as few or as many players as you like! Each arrangement will work with just three orfour main parts. Part 1 is quite demanding but Parts 2 & 3 are easier. These parts can be played by just one or several players - it’s up to you!. Optional ‘filler’ parts are also included for beginners. These have very simplerhythms and notes (clarinet parts are all below the break) allowing young players to gain experience in ensemble playing. Mixed Bag gives you a score and double set of parts. Suite Siciliana is a true tribute to this beautiful island, a piece composed by seven dances in the musical form typical of the baroque period. Divertimento, an early work of Franco Cesarini, illustrates the composer's love of popular song. A piece characterised by skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form. Le Cortège du Roi Renaud is a suite in five parts based on tales that originate in southern European folk songs dating back as far as the 16th century. Pastorale de Provence, a suite in four movements, was written by Franco Cesarini in memory of the great Provençal composer Darius Milhaud. As the title says, Greek Folk Dances is entirely in the sign of Greek dances starting with a kalamatianos, followed by a zeibekiko. The piece ends with a hasapiko.
