Edward Huws Jones explains that 'during the heyday of sail, the busiest sea-routes of all were the North Atlantic crossings, especially between Liverpool and the American cotton ports- it was the heady mixture of African-American and Irish music which gave birth to the mid-century flowering of the sea shanty. Meanwhile English-speaking vessels were sailing to the Cape, India, Australia and many other far-flung destinations, carrying a two-way traffic of song and dance.? The tunes in this collection can all be played as unaccompanied fiddle tunes, which is how they would have been played in the days of sail. During his lifetime composer Piano manufacturer and publisher Ignaz Pleyel bestowed upon the world of music an almost unimaginable number of published compositions some of them in multiple arrangements too. Of those what has remained in the repertoire today are primarily works for small chamber ensembles. Several Violin duos for instance have maintained their place among enthusiasts and students among them in particular the ?Little Duos in Increasing Difficulty ? which appeared in print in 1806 ?at the urging of several teachers? (according to the title page!). Now for the first time G. The melody isoriginal though clearly influenced by the music and perpetual tides of the Hebrides. The study of string instruments should include ensemble playing at the earliest possible stage. There is much to be gained from the playing of duets. Each player learns how to listen to the other, and in a short time develops an awareness of balance, musical phrasing, intonation, and tone quality. This type of training is excellent preparation for participation in large groups. These four volumes of duets for two violins will help fill the need for early ensemble experience in the public schools. Klezmer Miniatures has been compiled for young musicians who, by playing an instrument, would like to become acquainted with the musically varied world of Klezmer. The series comprises two duos, four trios and two quartets, which can be performed with different combinations of instruments - violin, clarinet, flute, cello, double bass, bass guitar and trumpet. The composer, Ferenc Jávori, is a major figure of world music in Europe and is a prolific composer, orchestrator and performer. He is the founder and leader of the Budapest Klezmer Band. Jávori was born into a Hungarian-Jewish community in Munkács (Mukacheve, Ukraine), where the years before the Second World War witnessed a golden age of Klezmer, the traditional, instrumental folk music of Yiddish-speaking Jewish communities. He has collected and compiled numerous melodies and songs from the last representatives of this formerly vibrant musical culture.
