POD-Fanfares And Chorales for Brass Ensemble was composed by Poul Ruders in 2016. Commissioned by the Royal Danish Academy of Music and professor Jesper Juul Windahl in celebration of RDAM´s 150th anniversary in 2017.

For brass sextet: 2 trumpets French horn 2 trombones and tuba.-The sea depicted in 'Poems of the Sea' from which this 'Chanty' was taken are neither as dramatically stormy as in 'The Flying Dutchman' nor as reflective as Debussy's in 'La Mer'. Instead they are gentle without being placid andenergetic without being turbulent. 'Chanty' itself is far removed form the kind of sea shanty exemplified by 'What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor' - this is a reflective piece with a touching melody. It is here arranged forBrass Sextet by R.W. Landes.

The assignment to write a test piece for the National Brass Band Championships ended up also being a ?test piece? for myself as a composer. Although being quite familiar with the Brass Band phenomenon as a composer I still have the feeling ofbeing an outsider. Delta Energy turned out to be a non-program composition. The Brass Band as orchestra form is depicted musically in this piece. All the specific characteristics are portrayed in varying settings. Solo passages for Euphonium Flugelhorn and Cornet alternating with extensive tutti-passages and of course technical highlights form the ingredients for this work written in rhapsodic form. The title ?Delta Energy? is derived from a project of the N.V. NederlandseGasunie in Groningen which also contributed in making this composition possible.

D?autres attribuent son origine à Saint Bonaventure un prêtre franciscain contemporain de Saint François qui en aurait composé le texte original en latin au XIIIe siècle. Enfin certains historiens affirment qu?Adeste Fideles aurait été écrit par un poète anonyme français sous le règne de Louis XIV.Quoiqu?il en soit il est communément reconnu que les strophes ont été écrites ou découvertes par l?Anglais John Francis Wade (vers 1710-1786) alors qu?il travaillait en tant que chercheur et copiste à Douai en France. La première version imprimée du cantique date des années 1740. Elle fut ensuite intégrée au recueil Cantus Diversipublié en 1751.Catholique laïc John Francis Wade fuit l?Angleterre en proie à des persécutions religieuses. Vers 1731 il copiait des manuscrits de plain-chant au Collège dominicain de Borhem en Flandre. Plus tard il s?installa à Douai dans le Nord de la France forteresse de la foi catholique où le roi d'Espagne Philippe II avait fondé une université en 1559. Wade gagnait sa vie « en copiant et vendant des manuscrits de plain-chant et d?autres œuvres ». Il fut également professeur de latin et de musique sacrée. Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Percussion-Landscapes is a work structured around two main ideas. On the one hand the music freely paints some of the superb landscapes I’ve seen during several of my trips around the world. Listeners should however not be influenced by this programmatic framework and are encouraged to build their own ‘mind pictures’.On the other hand Landscapes constitutes a test piece for each section of the brass band. Indeed each musical landscape highlights a particular register. A small group of soloists is given the opportunity to fully display its skills in dialogue with the rest of the band (the tutti) hence the name ‘concerto grosso’. Landscapes also relies on the band’s different soloistmusicians when it comes to express highly complex musically and technically challenging passages.

The inspiration for this piece commissioned by the United States Army Band came from the Gulf and its constant presentation to the world as a media event on television. The composer wanted to capture the colour and events of war as they were played out on the television screen. Composed as a single movement rhapsody the work is framed by the riveting sounds of airborne bombing raids with brass and percussion combining to create a gripping sense of tension.

Commissioned by the Norwegian Band Federation and Tom Brevik. Composed in 1991. The composer:Elegy and March was one of my first original compositions (no quotations no folk-tunes) and it was one of my earliest attempts to experiment with form. The elegy-part is quite obvious but the march is not quite a march. If the elegy-part tells a sad story then the march should tell a happy story. My problem is that I don¬?t think life is like that. Result: the march collapses! De liefhebbers van de muziek van de Scandinaviër Aagaard-Nilsen kunnen hun hart ophalen bij dit bijzondere werk. In de tweedelige compositie zijn de delen thematisch aan elkaarverwant. De Elegy is een verstild werkje met prachtige klankvelden. Alle instrumenten komen aan bod maar nooit tegelijk. Hoe anders is dat in de mars waarbij ragfijn orkestspel wordt gevraagd. De componist: Elegy and March was een van mijn eerste originele werken (geen citaten geen volksliedjes) en het was een van mijn eerste pogingen om te experimenteren met vorm. De elegie deel is vrij duidelijk maar de mars is niet helemaal een mars. Als het elegie-deel een triest verhaal vertelt dan zou de mars een gelukkig verhaal moeten vertellen. Mijn idee is dat dat in het echte leven ook niet zo is. Resultaat: de mars stort totaal in!Weer iets totaal anders van de Noorse meester!

Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by royal governor 'Lord Dunmore at an unusual location: Nassau the capital of the Bahamas. The name of the fort: Fort Fincastle' comes from Dunmore's second title of Viscount Fincastle '( Earl of Fincastle). He gave the fort a particular shape a circular building with a sharp expansion in the form of a bow or bow of ship. In order to deceive enemy ships. The sounds of the first bars show the contours of a looming majestic stronghold after a heroic theme follows. Soon we hear the threat of hostile elements. Work on the fort means much waiting and lonely but you should always alert and vigilant for the ever lurking attack. After the turn of yet another attack there is a feeling of satisfaction and pride we see the fort are on the hill towering above Nassau.

In ‘Latin Dance Party’ William Vean takes us along to sunny seemingly care-free places. Happy faces catchy music delicious drinks are images that come to mind when listening to this ‘feel good’ music which will either get you in a dreamy mood or make you want to step out onto the dance floor. To start we hear the first dance of Cuban origin 'Cha Cha Cha' cheerful romantic playful dance . The Cha Cha Cha is probably the most popular dance. Then we have the slower 'Bossa Nova' (new wave) a dance developed from the Samba rhythms with strong syncopation. We end with the 'Samba'. Samba is party. The samba is a mix of polka Cuban habanera and Africanrhythms born around 1910 in the slums of Rio de Janeiro and every year the leading dance during the exuberant carnival.
