The Latin word Introitus means â??entryâ??. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. If you need a beautiful slow interlude for any concert then this is the piece for you. This short work by Italian composer Thomaso Albinoni has a luscious melody that will bring tears to any eyes. For hundreds of years the manuscript of this work had been lost and was only discovered in 1945. Despite this it has become Albinoni’s best known work and has topped the classical charts on many occasions. Wonderful figures for the flugel and soprano cornet bring out extra emotion in this arrangement by Jacob de Haan.Das Adagio, so wie es heute weithin bekannt ist, hat eine interessante Geschichte: Es wurde erst im 20. Jahrhundert von einem Musikwissenschaftler aus einem Manuskript Albinonis, welches lediglich Teile einer Melodie enthielt, rekonstruiert. Dennoch ist es gerade das Adagio, das Albinoni in der heutigen Musikwelt berühmt gemacht hat und dessen Wirkung sich auch in diesem gefühlvollen Arrangement von Jacob de Haan niemand entziehen kann. Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) est né Venise. Il est le fils aîné d’un riche marchand. Dès son plus jeune ge, il développe un réel talent pour le chant et surtout pour le violon, et se met rapidement composer. Albinoni a vécu et travaillé toute sa vie durant Venise, mais a également séjourné Florence et Munich.Dans sa jeunesse, Albinoni compose de la musique sacrée mais sans grand succès. En 1694, il attire l’attention du public vénitien lors de la représentation de son premier opéra Zenobia, Regina de Palmireni (Zenobia, reine de Palmireni). Ses premières œuvres de musique instrumentale datent de la même année. Par la suite, Albinoni se consacre surtout lacomposition d’œuvres vocales (opéras et cantates) et instrumentales (sonates et concertos).C’est en travaillant sur la biographie d’Albinoni, au sortir de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, que le musicologue milanais, Remo Giazotto, découvre la Bibliothèque Nationale de Dresde, un manuscrit inédit, sur lequel est basé le célèbre Adagio. Il semblerait que les six mesures de la mélodie et la ligne de basse retrouvées aient constitué un passage d’un mouvement lent d’une sonate trois. Vers 1945, en partant de ces éléments, Remo Giazotto reconstitue une œuvre, célèbre de nos jours, comme l’Adagio d’Albinoni, alors qu’Albinoni lui-même ne serait probablement plus en mesure de reconnaître sa pièce.

In 1989, the demonstration named the Baltic Way also known as the Baltic Chain— was held in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania by its citizens in a call for independence from the Soviet Union. On 23rd August 1989, some two million participants formed a human chain, hand-in-hand all the way from the Estonian capital of Tallinn its Latvian counterpart, Riga, through to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius - six hundred kilometres long. It became the longest human chain ever created and turned out to be the final push needed for much sought-after independence. This historic event became the source of inspiration for this composition. The introduction of thefirst movement, ‘Struggle for Independence’, is based on a nocturne for piano by the renowned Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas iurlionis (1875-1911), thematic material from which has been incorporated throughout the whole composition. The melancholic beginning is followed by a powerful theme which reflects the resolve of the Baltic people. The sudden aggressive, dissonant chords and a dominant and—in rhythmic terms—contrary bass drum announce that the resistance is not going smoothly. Just for a moment, we hear the anthem of the Soviet Union in the lower brass, but this is relentlessly pushed to the background by the rest of the band playing the Lithuanian national anthem, ‘Tautiška giesm ’ (Lithuania, our homeland). The second movement, ‘Decades of Suffering’, echoes life under the Soviet Union's thumb. In the pursuit of independence, a peaceful protest is planned in which a human chain is formed across the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This ‘Chain of Freedom’ is depicted in the final movement of the work. De Baltische Weg (The Baltic Way) was een demonstratie van de bevolking van de Baltische staten die in 1989 plaatsvond als een roep om onafhankelijkheid van de Sovjet-Unie. The word ‘tsunami’ is of Japanese origin. When you look it up in a dictionary, you will find that it means ‘a great sea wave produced by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption’. A megatsunami is the superlative of this awesome expressionof power that nature can create, and has catastrophic consequences. When Carl Wittrock completed this composition not many such big earth movements had occurred, but since then we have become all too familiar with the disastrousconsequences which a tsunami may have. On the 26th of December 2004 a heavy seaquake took place near the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Tidal waves 10 meters in height ravaged the coastal regions of many countries for miles around. The tsunamitook the lives of thousands of people and destroyed many villages and towns. There are more areas which run the risk of being struck by a tsunami, such as the island of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands. This island is based on oceaniccrust at a fracture zone and as such is one of nature’s time bombs. The consequences of a natural calamity like a megatsunami are immense. In the case of La Palma, the tidal wave will move in the direction of South America, where it may reach 50km inland, destroying everything on its way. In his composition Wittrock describes an ordinary day which will have an unexpected ending. Right from the beginning there seems to be something in the air, the music creating an oppressiveatmosphere of impending disaster. Themes are interrupted, broken off suddenly, followed by silence, suggesting the calm before the storm. Suddenly a short climax (glissandi in the trombone part) indicates the seaquake, and the megatsunami isa fact. Hereafter follows a turbulent passage symbolising the huge rolling waves. After nature’s force has spent itself, resignation sets in and the composition ends with a majestic ode to nature.Het woord tsunami is afkomstig uit het Japans. Het woordenboek geeft als betekenis: een vloedgolf als gevolg van een onderzeese aardbeving. Een megatsunami is de overtreffende trap van deze vorm van natuurgeweld en heeft catastrofale gevolgen. Toen Carl Wittrock deze compositie voltooide waren er nog niet veel voorbeelden van dergelijke grote bevingen, maar inmiddels weten we maar al te goed welke desastreuze gevolgen een tsunami kan veroorzaken. Op 26 december 2004 vond ereen zware beving plaats in de zee nabij het Indonesische eiland Sumatra. Vloedgolven van wel 10 meter hoog teisterden de kuststreken van menig land in de verre omtrek. De tsunami eiste duizenden mensenlevens en verwoestte vele dorpen ensteden. Er zijn meer gebieden waar sprake is van een directe dreiging, zoals op het eiland La Palma, één van de Canarische eilanden. Dit eiland ligt op een breukvlak en is daarmee een tijdbom van de natuur. Bij een calamiteit als eenmegatsunami zijn de gevolgen niet te overzien. In het geval van La Palma begeeft de vloedgolf van enkele honderden meters zich richting Zuid Amerika met alle gevolgen van dien. Tot ongeveer 50 kilometer landinwaarts heeft de megatsunami eenallesverwoestende werking. In de compositie schetst Wittrock een gewone dag die ongewoon zal aflopen. Al vanaf het begin hangt er iets in de lucht en is er sprake van een dreigende, beklemmende sfeer. Themas worden onderbroken doorplotselinge afbrekingen en stiltes. Opeens is daar de korte climax (glissandi in trombones) die de beving symboliseert en de megatsunami is een feit. Een onrustig gedeelte vangt aan, daarmee de rollende, voortstuwende golven symboliserend. Na hetnatuurgeweld is er berusting en The Power of the Megatsunami wordt afgesloten met een majestueuze ode aan de natuur.Gobelin Music Publications.

There are all sorts of marches: fast and slow, solemn and energetic, military and civil, procession and funeral. Orion is a so-called ‘slow march’. However the moderate tempo does not make a passive or heavy impression. On the contrary, this march contains natural optimism and spontaneity. The persistant ‘pulse’ gives this majestic march a noble character Orion ist zwar ein langsamer Marsch, sein getragenes Tempo wirkt aber keineswegs passiv oder schwerfällig, vielmehr strahlt er natürlichen Optimismus und Spontaneität aus. Die eher einfach gehaltene Komposition ist vielseitig einsetzbar und soinstrumentiert, dass sie auch von kleineren Formationen ohne nennenswerte Veränderung im Gesamtklang gespielt werden kann. Der fast durchgehend rhythmische Puls des Schlagzeugs verleiht dem majesÂtätischen Marsch das gewisse Etwas. Orion est une marche lente qui se distingue par son caractère optimiste et sa fraîcheur. Cette marche de concert, techniquement peu exigeante, est accessible un grand nombre de formations. Le choix de l’instrumentation permet également aux petits ensembles de l’interpréter avec un rendu tout aussi homogène. La pulsation rythmique presque continue de la percussion donne cette marche majestueuse un caractère noble.

The Netherlands have been an important trading nation for a long time partly as a result of their geographical situation. One of the first multinationals in The Netherlands was the ‘Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie’ (VOC). The aim of the VOC was to send ships to Asia in order to buy pepper and spices, and to take over the Portuguese monopoly in this field. The Company was successful. An era of great prosperity resulted, in which the art of painting (Rembrandt van Rijn) as well as science (Constantijn Huygens) flourished alongside a thriving economy. 1. The Sails are set : There is a lot of hustle and bustle on the quay. The crew are preparing fordeparture. Goodbyes are said and once the sails have been hoisted the ship sets out to sea.2. A Visit to the Rajah of Yogyakarta: After a voyage of many months the place of destination is reached. A visit to the Radja, the king of the area around Yokyakarta, follows. The dishes and beverages and the native culture in general are very pleasant after having been on a diet of ship’s biscuit and water for such a long time.3. The Holds have been loaded: The holds have been loaded to the brim, and the voyage home can be begin!4. Death sails along: Life at sea is rough. not seldom did a sailor die of a tropical disease or scurvy. After a memorial service, the Captain would speak the words ‘One, two, three, in God’s name ...’ and the body, wrapped in canvas, would be committed to the sea.5. A joyful homecoming: After many months of hardship coming home is perhaps the best part of the entire voyage. The quay is filled with people eager to give the crew a warm welcome. A joyful homecoming: Na maanden van ontberingen is het thuiskomen misschien wel het mooiste van de hele reis. De kade staat weer vol om de bemanning een warm onthaal te geven.

Sanctuary was commissioned by Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass from New Zealand and was performed as an own choice piece at the 2018 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships. It opens with an expressive cornet solo, hymn-like in mood. A slightly faster central section builds to a change of key and an expansive return of the opening melody, this time scored for full band. After an emotional climax the mood subsides, leading to a quiet close. Sanctuary werd geschreven in opdracht van Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass uit Nieuw-Zeeland en werd uitgevoerd als zelfgekozen werk tijdens de New Zealand National Brass Band Championships van 2018. Het werk opent met een expressieve kornetsolo, die qua atmosfeer veel weg heeft van een hymne. Een iets sneller middengedeelte werkt toe naar een verandering van toonsoort en een grootse terugkeer van de openingsmelodie, deze keer getoonzet voor de complete band. Na een emotioneel hoogtepunt wordt de muziek kalmer van sfeer en mondt ze uit in een rustig slot.Sanctuary wurde von der Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass aus Neuseeland in Auftrag gegeben und als Selbstwahlstück bei den New Zealand National Brass Band Championships 2018 aufgeführt. Nach einem emotionalen Höhepunkt beruhigt sich die Stimmung und mündet in einen ruhigen Schluss.Sanctuary est une commande de l’ensemble néo-zélandais Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass, qui l’a interprétée en tant qu’œuvre libre « contemplative » au Championnat national de brass bands de Nouvelle-Zélande 2018. The composer:1st movement: Reflections by the Fjord.Overlooking one of the mighty fjords of Norway, my mind and thoughts are with an old religious Norwegian folk-tune, with words by the famous parson Peter Dass.The majestic fanfare-likeopening reflects the power of God our Father, the choral itself heard for the first time on flugelhorn. The choral is repeated a few times, separated only by some short variations. The movement ends in thriumph, with fanfares and the choral broughttogether.2nd movement: Reflections in the Old Church.In this movement my associations of a summer day, finding myself alone in an old deserted stone church. From the old walls I hear folk songs, perhaps like the ones sung in the church bypoor fishermen and farmers in days gone by. Suddenly the light from the sun breakes through the small circular window above the altar, and a lovely melody is heard, before the original figures take us to the end of the movement.3rd movement:Festive Reflections.Any festive occasion can be reflected in this movement. from the bonfire at midsummer-night to the children celebrating the return of the sun in the northern part of Norway. from the traditional sleigh-riding at Christmas tothe Celebrations of the National Day on the 17th of May each year.De componist: 1e deel: Reflections by the Fjord. Uitkijkend over een van de machtige fjorden van Noorwegen, zijn mijn geest en gedachten bij een oude, religieuze Noorse folk-melodie, met woorden van de beroemde dominee Peter Dass. Demajestueuze fanfare-achtige opening weerspiegelt de kracht van God, onze Vader. Het koraal wordt als eerste gespeeld door de bugel. Het koraal wordt een aantal keren herhaald, slechts onderbroken door enkele korte variaties. Het deel eindigttriomfantelijk, met fanfares en het koraal bij elkaar gebracht. 2e deel: Reflections in the Old Church. In dit deel mijn denkbeelden van een zomerse dag, ik zie mezelf staan in een oude, verlaten stenen kerk. Weerkaatsend tussen de oudemuren hoor ik volksliederen, misschien wel zoals die in de kerk gezongen werden door arme vissers en boeren in vervlogen tijden. Plotseling breekt het licht van de zon door de kleine ronde ramen boven het altaar, en ik hoor een prachtigemelodie, voordat het oorspronkelijke thema ons naar het einde van het deel voert. 3e deel: Festive Reflections. Feestelijke gelegenheden kunnen worden weerspiegeld in dit deel, van het nachtelijk midzomer vuur tot de kinderen die deterugkeer van de zon in het noordelijk deel van Noorwegen vieren, van het traditionele sleerijden met Kerstmis tot aan de viering van de Nationale Dag op 17 mei van elk jaar toe.Gobelin Music Publications.

The rhythm of the samba was originally created in Africa and brought to Brazil by the slaves . Here it became the national dance. For every festive occasion and especially the carnival festivities (Rio de Janeiro) samba music is played. The World's Fair in New York (1939) was the reason to the biggest spread of the samba. The cornet section gets an opportunity to feature in Ever so Samba. Together with the swinging percussion section they let you enjoy a South American party.Het ritme van de samba is oorspronkelijk ontstaan in Afrika, en door de negerslaven meegenomen naar Brazilië. Hier werd de samba de nationale dans. Bij iedere feestelijke gebeurtenis en vooral tijdens de festiviteiten rond carnaval(Rio de Janeiro) wordt sambamuziek gespeeld en wordt er uitbundig op gedanst. De wereldtentoonstelling in New York (1939) zorgde voor de grootste verspreiding van de samba. De cornet-sectie krijgt in Ever so Sambade gelegenheid om eens lekker uit de bol te gaan. Samen met het swingende slagwerk laten zij u genieten van een Zuid-Amerikaans feestje.

Frontier Vision is a concert or contest piece based on three elements: the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day, the Martin Luther melody, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott) on whichthis composition is based, and thirdly the spreading of the evangelical movement in the late 19th century, of which the analogous storyline forms the structural basis of this work. Multi-cultural ethnic influences, along with the driving rhythms thatreflect the perseverance and hard work of those mission-minded pioneers, are both important components that make Frontier Vision an outstanding choice for your concert or contest. Vijfhonderd jaar geleden presenteerde de Duitse theoloog Maarten Luther zijn 95 stellingen. Enkele jaren later schreef hij het lied ‘Ein Feste Burgist unser Gott’ Zijn werk vormde de basis van de verspreiding van een evangelische beweging over Noord-Amerika, eind 19e eeuw. Multiculturele etnische invloeden in combinatie met stuwende ritmes die de vasthoudendheid en het harde werk van pioniersmet een missie weerspiegelen, zijn belangrijke elementen die dit werk een uitstekende keus voor uw orkest maken. La composition repose sur cette mélodie connue et est aussi inspirée du mouvement évangélique qui s’est propagé la fin du XIXe siècle. Des allusions ces origines multiculturelles, ainsi que des rythmes forts qui représentent la persévéranceet le travail laborieux des pionniers menés par la mission forment des éléments importants qui font de Frontier Vision un choix excellent pour vos concerts ou vos concours. Cette œuvre était la pièce imposée de la deuxième division duChampionnat National de Brass Band des Pays-Bas en 2017.

Felix-Alexandre Guilmant-Amédée (Boulogne-sur-Mer, March 12, 1837 - Meudon, March 29, 1911) was a French composer and organist. Like many other composers, he was very talented on a young age, he was 12 years when he was playing organ smoothly. He studied with Lemmens with Charles-Marie Widor and Gigout. Between 1871 and 1901 he the leading man in the Paris organ scenery, along with his fellow students, later on he teached at the Paris Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique, inter alia, Joseph Bonnet and Marcel Dupre. Known are his organ sonatas, which are equivalent to the famous organ symphonies of Widor. His work was very popular. Also knownunder the title Morceau Symphonique, Opus 88.
