David Ashley White has a wealth of musical experience both as a composer and a teacher....A Lenten Prayer , with an optional flute part, has a pastoral quality which effortlessly moves through different keys and recalls perhaps the Englishness of a composer such as Vaughan Williams. It is useful to note that the composer sanctions a number of different performance options including unison voices throughout.--David Halls, Choirmaster of Salisbury Cathedral, October 2003.

Craig Phillips is becoming increasingly known as one of our most gifted composers for the Church. This new anthem uses excerpts from The Prayers of Kierkegaard as its inspiration. The use of mixed meter and the lovely writing for the flute give the piece its pastoral impressionistic spirit. Anintroduction for flute and organ creates the atmosphere of comfort and peace. Each phrase or group of phrases is set off by an interlude for flute and organ increasing in harmonic interest and intensity. The choral parts are written with great flair and imagination and stay within mostly moderate ranges. This would be a most gratifying work for choirs of advanced abilities.

For solo voice, SATB (with divisions), flute, and piano This timeless arrangement of Skylark, a standard of the golden age of American song, is rich, mellow, and mellifluous. Soaring lines for flute depict the eponymous songbird, and the classic Hoagy Carmichael tune is shared between solo voice and choir.
