?Songs of Sorrow and Joy? is een bonte suite van liederen zonder woorden. Ik heb geprobeerd enerzijds de clichématige identiteit van de melodieën niet uit de weg te gaan anderzijds heb ik middels harmonische en vormtechnische ingrepen getracht voor een flink aantal verrassingen te zorgen die deze emblematische gestaltes van het muzikale basismateriaal in een ander daglicht plaatsen opdat het geheel de platgetreden paden van de blaasmuziek overstijge. Voorts heb ik mijn best gedaan om voor iedere instrumentengroep een partij te schrijven die op muzikaal en technisch gebied uitdagingen bevat. Micha Hamel

Melodia Blues a swinging composition by PeterKleine Schaars begins with a robust intro. Fourbars follow which can be repeated ad lib. toallow for an optional announcement (this is theso-called VAMP). The blues theme follows alongwith two written-out improvisations. These can beexpanded - depending on the resources withinyour band. After a richly scored reprise of thetheme the sparkling final chords close the piece instyle. Bring a great jazz feel to any concert withthis fine new work.Grade 3

A delicacy for the eye ear and taste buds that was originally created by a Parisian cook in London. A musical haven of peace as a dessert and a romantic highlight of a diner a la carte. The melodic lines are relaxed and smooth and will definitely take you to another dimension for a while.

for Band. Par MAIRS DAVID. This march was written for the Durham MS Band in Lewisville, TX, an enthusiastic group of young musicians, growing in their technique and musicality and eager to sound like the big kids. Pride of the Maroon Dragons features a variety of articulations for the trumpets and upper woodwinds in the first strain, and a bold melody for the low brass and low woodwinds in the second. The trio features a smooth, legato melody in the clarinets and horns, followed by a melodic refrain in which every section has something important to say.
