Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Terence Best. This edition: complete edition, urtext edition. Linen. Halle Handel Edition (HHA) Serie II, Band 15. Complete edition, Score. HWV 18. Handel began the composition of Tamerlano, one of the supreme masterpieces of Baroque opera seria, on 3rd July 1724. The libretto was an adaptation by Nicola Haym of Agostino Piovene's Tamerlano, Tragedia per musica, which had been set to music by Francesco Gasparini, and performed in Venice in 1711. When Handel dated the last page of the autograph on 4rd July the work appeared to be complete; but during the three months which passed before the premiere at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket on 31 October, so many alterations and revisions were made that a fresh performing-score had to be writtern very late in the proceedings, to replace an earlier one which is now 1ost.
There were twelve performances between 31 October 1724 and 8 May 1725. Handel revived the opera only once, in 1731, for three performances. For this revival he marked in the performing score a number of cuts in the recitatives, which are reproduced in the present edition; there is more recitative in Tamerlano than in any other Handel opera.

Among the vocal compositions incorrectly attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, the cantata has a place of its own, because its tonal language approaches the unmistakable style of the Thomaskantor. This applies especially to its choral movements and recitatives. In the surviving sources, only one of which dates back to the 18th century, there are certain compositonal errors which cannot possibly be reconciled to Bach's mature style. SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, congregation, 2 violins, viola, cello, contrabass, organ SKU: CA.5040515 Chorale cantata. Composed by Max Reger. Edited by Gunther Massenkeil. German title: O wie selig seid ihr doch. Sacred vocal music, Mourning, death. Single Part, Double Bass. Composed 1903. Op. WoO V/4 Nr. 2. 2 pages. Duration 15 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 50.405/15. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5040515). ISBN 9790007081751. Key: D minor. Language: German/English. The choral cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. This is true despite the fact that Reger himself does not appear to have considered the cantatas to figure among his principal compositions, as he gave them no opus numbers. In contrast to the three other chorale cantatas of Reger which exist in a definitive form, there is no record of the place or date of the first performance of O wie selig, or indeed of any performance of it during the composer's lifetime. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Single Part, Viola 1. Composed 1714. BWV 182. 8 pages. Version in A major (version in G major: Carus 31.182/50) The cantata Himmelskonig, sei willkommen BWV 182 holds a special place in Johann Sebastian Bach's biography. He had been employed as organist and chamber musician at the court of Weimar since 1708; on 2 March 1714, he was appointed concert master of the court, and his inauguration music for this occasion was Himmelskonig, sei willkommen. The cantata was first performed on Palm Sunday of that year, 25 March 1714. Bach performed this cantata several times - always revising and amending it - both in Weimar and in Leipzig. Of the altogether four versions, the first Leipzig version has been selected for the present new edition. Unlike the Weimar versions, it can be realized effectively using modern performance means. In his debut composition of 1714, the newly appointed concert master demonstrated his abilities: the eight movements contain a multitude of beautiful and rewarding challenges for choir and vocal soloists alike, and in addition there is the unusual attraction of a virtuoso solo part for the recorder.
