Né en 1953 à Perpignan, Daniel Tosi est aujourd'hui compositeur et chef d'orchestre. Il obtient six premiers Prix au CNSM de Paris. Parallèlement, il accomplit des études à la Sorbonne où, après avoir réussi l'agrégation, il obtient un doctorat es lettres du Troisième cycle (mention Très Bien). Titulaire également de deux Certificats d'Aptitude (Analyse et Direction des Conservatoires Nationaux de Région), il occupe un poste d'inspecteur à la Direction de la Musique et entreprend un travail pédagogique selon sa triple activité de composition, recherche et direction d'orchestre. En 1983, Daniel Tosi obtient le Prix de Rome. Pensionnaire de la Villa Medicis jusqu'en 1985, il reçoit cette même année le prix Georges Enesco décerné par la Sacem. En 1986, il reçoit le Prix de la Villa Medicis Hors les Murs lui permettant de réaliser une oeuvre à l'étranger (Barcelone). En 1999 Daniel Tosi obtient la distinction d'Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres et, plus récemment, reçoit le prix Claude Arrieu (décerné par la Sacem) Ses oeuvres sont régulièrement jouées dans de nombreux festivals de musique contemporaine (Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Turin, Milan, La Rochelle, Bourges, Perpignan, Caen, etc) par des formations diverses ainsi que par des solistes renommés (Ensemble de l'Itinéraire, les Percussions de Strasbourg, le Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, l'ensemble Solars Vortices, TM +, Jean Lennert, Jean Geoffroy, etc) Outre ses activités de compositeur et chef d'orchestre, Daniel Tosi dirige le Conservatoire Perpignan Méditerranée depuis 1989. 'Romance for violin and piano is a short reflective piece that exploits the lyrical qualities inherent in the combination. Originally written for a very young but talented violinist Romance travels through numerous moods andcolours within a continuous musical development of the opening material. At first gentle and reflective with increasing dramatic outbursts outlined by the violin sforzandi and parallel sixths in the piano writing numerous shortsolo passages in both instruments culminate in a fiery climax. Quickly subsiding into the calmer yet now more melancholy strains of the earlier stages of the piece the ending is somewhat incomplete. This seems to suggest acontinuous turn of events alluded to in the music.'???????????? - Helen GrimeBorn in 1981 Helen studied oboe with JohnAnderson and composition with Julian Anderson and Edwin Roxburgh at the Royal College of Music. She graduated from the BMus course with First Class Honours and completed her Masters with Distinction in 2004. From 2005-07 Helenwas a Legal & General Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music. In 2003 she won a British Composer Award for her Oboe Concerto and was awarded the intercollegiate Theodore Holland Composition Prize in 2003 as well as allthe major composition prizes in the RCM. revised edition of HN 293-Whilst some late works by César Franck have received criticism the Sonata For Piano and Violin In A Major of 1886 found a friendly reception among critics and public from the outset. This work isdedicated to Eugène Ysaÿe who was attracting much attention at the time with his flawless Violin technique. Ysaÿe was so inspired by the Sonata that he promised 'I will play this masterpiece wherever I can find anartistically-minded pianist'.Nothing has changed to the present day regarding the work's continuing popularity but it was time to revise Henle's previous edition to reflect the latest research. In the intervening period ithas been shown that Franck was actively involved in reading the proofs for the printed edition meaning that the first edition which contains many differences from the autograph has become the basis for this new one.The markings of the Violin part of Henle's edition are by Yehudi Menuhin; Daniel Hope has undertaken the changes required by the revised musical text.
