'...The present collection has been conceived right from the outset so as to form an organic component of and a supplement to the teaching of solfeggio. The original text and their relevant translations have been omitted with the intention that the pedagogical aim namely that which is achieved through solmization could be proprely emphasized. There is hardly any need to recommend these pieces for cultivation. Luckily enough solfeggio has become so wide-spread and in particular singing canons has gained such popularity that its praise would suggest an irony of the same kind as Erasmus' eulogy of foolishness. Chamber Orch. Par TROTTA MICHAEL JOHN. A wonderfully expressive a cappella setting of the traditional Christmas text. Carefully prepared dissonances and use of close harmonies thoughtfully paint the text as a sense of awe and wonder permeate the setting. Moving Parts is the music for Benjamin Millepied’s ballet of the same name. Scored for Violin Clarinet and Pipe Organ the piece is a series of rhythmic etudes. The slow movement is a very slow passacaglia with I hope unexpected lyrical melodies in the violin. After an extended Organ toccata built over a drone a brief slow movement creates a natural midpoint. The violin aggressively plucking builds up to form a canon with a clarinet and after a loud outburst from the organ the piece ends quietly. Moving Parts written in 2012 is dedicated to Benjamin and the Los Angeles Dance Project. 

Symphonies. Par RAMEAU JEAN-PHILIPPE. This edition unites all the purely instrumental and dance numbers from one of Rameau?s most popular operas, along with those from his last one-act opéra-ballet ?Io?, which was left unfinished at the time of his death. ?Platée? is the setting of a libretto by Jacques Autreau that Rameau arranged to be adapted for his own purposes, especially with regard to comic effects. In grotesque form, it shows Jupiter curing his wife Juno of her jealousy by feigning a marriage of love with the ugly swamp nymph Platée. Faced with such a ludicrous rival, Juno is forced to admit that her suspicions were unfounded. The opera was premièred in Versailles in 1745 for the wedding of the Dauphin Louis and Maria Theresia of Spain. The performance was a fiasco, however, for the coarse comedy and bizarre characters were deemed inappropriate by the wedding audience. It was not until 1749 in Paris that ?Platée? achieved its breakthrough, becoming Rameau?s greatest triumph to date. Another version with an altered text was performed from 1754 on. The plot of the fragmentary ?Io? deals with the amorous relations between the nymph Io and Jupiter in the guise of the shepherd Hylas, who becomes a rival of Apollo, disguised as Philemon. Now the inventive and richly varied orchestral numbers from this cruelly comical bonfire of the vanities can be presented in concert with greater flexibility. / Date parution : 2022-04-05/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Chambre

Composed, as the title suggests, for the 80th birthday of Alvin Lucier on May 14, 2011, At 80, Plus for Alvin Lucier by Christian Wolff is largely open in form and can be performed by any players, with variable duration. The performing score, published here as a facsimile of the autograph manuscript, consists of 14 short phrases to be performed in any sequence, followed by a 15th concluding phrase. Sonate en trio BWV Le 1038 est la première édition de musique de chambre pour flûte de Johann Sebastian Bach que Barthold Kuijken a préparé. Les chercheurs ont longtemps douté de la paternité de ce travail pour des raisons stylistiques, même si les pièces de performance de la principale source ont été écrits par Bach lui-même, mais malheureusement il a oublié, ou n'ont pas jugé nécessaire, d'ajouter son nom à la musique. Kuijken roule quelques arguments convaincants qui réfutent la thèse selon laquelle le jeune Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach a travaillé sur la version trio de la Sonate pour violon BWV 1022.
