Composers and lyricists Claire K. Rivero and William South wrote this piece part of the world-renowned William Hall Chorale Series. It is an endearing – and very singable – Christmas work for solo soprano secondsoprano and alto with an optional baritone line and piano accompaniment. The lyrics were inspired by (and dedicated to the memory of) Michael Deisz a very dear friend of William's from middle school.

The choral scene is in a state of change! On the one hand, more and more choirs are lacking in male voices, yet at the same time, more and more female choirs are looking for high-quality literature beyond folksong arrangements. Bärenreiter is responding to these general trends with the publication of arrangements for three-part female choir (SMA) of well-known, frequently-performed works. The first editions to be published are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Coronation Mass” K. 317 (BA 5691), a much-performed work within the standard repertoire and the “Missa brevis in D major” K. 194 (BA 5690-90), a charming alternative for use in church services. With great skill and sensitivity to the music, Heribert Breuer has carefully retained the substance of the original works, at the same time giving them a completely new sound quality. - Arrangements for female choir (SMA) based on the Urtext of the “New Mozart Edition” - Idiomatic piano reductions The arranger Heribert Breuer was professor of choral conducting and music theory at the Berlin University of the Arts until 2010. He is founder and director of the Berlin Bach Akademie, and has made a name for himself with his numerous arrangements of works from Bach to Schubert.

Men sangene blev hurtigt populære og allerede i deførste år efter udgivelsen blev de en fast del af mange kors julerepertoire både herhjemme og i Skandinavien (i en svensk-sproget udgave) - ja helt til USA kom de (i en engelsk-sproget udgave).Tæt på 25 års jubilæet er det nu tid til en revideret ny-udgivelse.Selve sangene er der ikke lavet om på - men storformen er ændret således at værket nu fremstår som et lille juleoratorium med recitationer og orgel-mellemspil. En enkel ny sats er kommet til: Lovsangen Stjerner og vinde og skyer og de instrumentale mellemspil (soli for fløjte/sax piano eller bas) er udbygget på forskellig måde. Normalt er det instrumenterne der akkompagnerer koret. Men i de instrumentale mellemspil er rollerne byttet om. Nu er det koret der med riffs scatsang og forskellige akkordbaserede figurer 'akkompagnerer' de improviserende solister.Fløjten vil - med passende oktaveringer - kunne erstattes af saxofon (sopran og/eller alt). Det forudsætter dog at saxofonisten er i stand til - også - at spille med smuk 'klassisk' klang. There's just no way to sit still when you hear this irresistible Christmas gospel tune by Sally K. Albrecht available and accessible for all choirs. Syncopated rhythms and solid gospel chords provide a stylized hook that cleverly introduces musical quotes from two American seasonal spirituals.
