À l’inverse de la première Sonate pour violoncelle composée quatre ans plus tôt (HN 1357), cette seconde Sonate, sensiblement plus séduisante et plaisante à jouer a obtenu dès le début un grand succès auprès du public et des critiques. Son ami et compagnon de route Vincent d’Indy écrivit à Fauré, le lendemain de la création en mai 1922: «Je veux te dire combien je suis encore sous le charme de ta si belle Sonate. J’ai trouvé là-dedans: La Musique que l’on semble oublier à présent». Il n’est donc guère étonnant que cette sonate ait rapidement figuré au répertoire des concerts, où elle tient aujourd’hui solidement sa place. Instrument : cello Series : Cello Library Nombre de Pages : 16 'The idea of writing a 'Jazz Suite for cello solo' came out when I tried to imagine how it would have sounded like if one of the baroque masters (Gabrielli, Buxtehude, Bach) had lived in our time and wanted to write a suite of dances. I thought it would probably still keep some of the conventions of the traditional form, like maybe the use of a Prelude to establish the key and the alternation of slow with fast movements. But some things would have definitely been different: the harmonies, for example would probably have been more complex and not always tonal. Also the popular dances used as a workbench for the suite would have been not gigues or Bourees but perhaps latin american or Jazz standards. Well, since the great masters are unfortunately not able at the moment to accept my challenge, I had to write it myself. I hope you will enjoy it. The famous cello player Janos Starker says: Lucio Amanti is a very fine cellist and imaginative composer. His Jazz Suite is an enjoyable mix of jazz and classicism. I much appreciate his work.' Sonata no. 2 in g minor op. 117 for Violoncello and Piano-In contrast to the first cello sonata (HN 1357) composed four years earlier this substantially more catchy and playful second sonata enjoyed great success with audiences and critics right from the start. Friend and associate Vincent d???Indy wrote to Faur? the day after the premiere in May 1922: I would like to tell you how much I am still charmed by your so beautiful sonata. In it I found what is seemingly forgotten these days: music.??? It therefore comes as no surprise that the sonata rapidly found its way into the concert repertoire where it maintains an uncontested position to this today.
