Seeking to bridge the educational divide between modern flute and baroque flute performance opportunities, Traverso Colore was founded in early 2005 as an outgrowth of the baroque flute class at Florida State University. They are a baroque flute ensemble that promotes baroque music on period instruments and creates more opportunities for flutists to perform original and arranged works from this historical era. All the arrangements in the Traverso Colore series, created by Karen McLaughlin Large and Tammara K. Phillips, can be played on baroque flutes as well as modern flutes. The Allegretto grazioso (3rd movement), arranged here for flute choir, is reminiscent of the Slavonic Dances of Antonin Dvorak. The flute orchestra version is arranged for six C flute parts, two alto flutes, two bass flutes and a contrabass flute. There are many versions of Ave Maria in the world and it is very risky to compete with Schubert, Bach or Caccini (Vavilov). I did not begin to compose another aria, but composed a polyphonic version, in which the intertwining voices, harmony, unusual rhythm changes and a wide palette of shades play the main role. Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. Danse Nègre, from the African Suite by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, arranged for flute choir by Paige Dashner Long. Coleridge spent his childhood in Croydon, Surrey, England, where he studied violin with his grandfather and also sang in the church choir. At 15, he was accepted to the Royal College of Music, where during his second year, he changed his major from violin to composition. At the age of 20, he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, who encouraged him to focus on his African heritage.
