Dans les années 80, il compose également un superbe Requiem dont les airs Hosanna et Pie Jesu sont les plus connus du grand public. Andrew Lloyd Webber excelle dans la création de mélodies à succès, pleines de sensibilité et d’émotion, telles que Memory et Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, suscitant l’admiration à travers le monde. All I AskOf You, extrait de la comédie musicale The Phantom of the Opera est un duo interprété par deux personnages majeurs de la comédie musicale, Christine et Raoul. L’intrigue de l’histoire est basée sur le roman de l’écrivain français Gaston Leroux. Le personnage principal (Le Fantôme de l’Opéra) est un être étrange, défiguré et masqué qui vit et hante les sous-sols de l’Opéra de Paris. Son amour obsessionnel pour la jeune cantatrice Christine, le pousse à promouvoir sa carrière à tout prix. Mais quand il s’aperçoit qu’elle est éprise de Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny et ami d’enfance de la cantatrice, la fureur s’empare de lui. Il élabore de nombreux complots aussi terrifiants que dramatiques mais finit par cesser de poursuivre Christine et disparaît à jamais. All I Ask Of You a été repris, à juste titre, par divers grands interprètes dont Barbra Streisand, et de nombreux arrangements en ont été réalisés. Par DE HAAN JACOB. Wir schlüpfen in die Haut von Miguel und reisen mit ihm nach Australien. Einigermaßen entfremdet von seiner spanischen Heimat schlendert er durch das Viertel The Rocks in Sydney. Auf einem kleinen Markt entdeckt er einen Druck des Gemäldes Pacific Dreams von William DeShazo. Das Bild stellt die Meeresbrandung auf einer exotischen Insel im Pazifik dar. Während die eindrucksvolle Harbour Bridge von Sidney vor ihm auftaucht, ist er in Gedanken bei den heißen Stränden im Stillen Ozean. Auf einmal kommt ihm das Thema in den Sinn, das er einst über die Gewässer Japans komponiert hatte. Liegt es an den asiatischen Einflüssen, die im kosmopolitischen Sydney so vielfältig vertretensind? Oder sind es die Wasser rund um Sydney, über die er nach Tahiti segeln könnte? Er ist sich unsicher. Könnte er genau dieses Thema für eine neue Komposition über die Metropole Sydney verwenden? Wie sollte er seine Träume vom Pazifik, seine Pacific Dreams, in diese Mixtur einbringen? Vielleicht könnte er den Wortschatz von Inseln wie Hawaii und Tahiti für seine Komposition verwenden. Und einen gemischten Chor die schönen Vokalverbindungen ad libitum singen lassen. Mit diesen Ideen im Kopf steigt er in die Metro am Circular Quay. Auf ins Hotel und frisch ans Werk! Queen of Lake Malaren March. Par WIDQVIST VIKTOR. One of Viktor Widqvist's most well-known marches is undoubtedly Mälarrottningen. It was probably composed as early as the 1910s when he was serving in the engineering troops, but was published as late as 1950. The march's subtle minor tonality and the elegant runs in the woodwind bring to mind the wavy waters of Riddarfjärden in summertime. Mälardrottningen is just like the other marches by Widqvist composed for the old military band setting without saxophones. The big challenge has been to rearrange the music without changing the timbre and I have put a lot of emphasis on keeping the elegance and resilience of the original and therefore let some instruments pause in parts to get transparency in the timbre. The present arrangement reflects very well the composer's intentions and perception of timbre in new instrumentation for modern wind band. - Niclas Blixt / Date parution : 2023-07-31/ Répertoire / Marching Band
