Being interested in certain aspects of popular music, I became aware of several similarities between popular Neapolitan melodies and the Argentinean tango. Napolitango is based on an imaginary journey to Naples and Buenos Aires. In retaining certain characteristics of the original music, Napolitango embodies an inspiration and an almost theatrically passionate character which is common to these two genres.
The piece has been composed for the Parisian Festival Paris Banlieues Tango 2001.

French composer and teacher, Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded, Concerto for Oboe being no exception. French oboist, Louis Bleuzet (1874-1941) studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won first prize for oboe. Being a virtuoso of the instrument himself, his The Technique of the Oboe is very well-informed. Bleuzet's career saw him become soloist at the Paris Opera as well as a professor of the oboe at the Paris Conservatoire. Published in 1937, The Technique of the Oboe was compiled by the composer toward the end of his life.
