(+)
When Queen Caroline the wife of King George II of England died on 20 November 1737 Handel was commissioned to write an anthem for her funeral service. She was buried in King Henry VII?s Chapel Westminster Abbey on the evening of 17 December 1737 with Handel?s work performed after the funeral service. To emphasize the solemnity of the occasion he used a roughly 100-piece Orchestra and 80 Choristers. The piece is a so-called ?full anthem? consisting of an instrumental Introduction (?Symphony?) and thirteen interlinked choruses. The words were written by Edward Willes the Sub-Dean of Westminster at that time using passages from the King James Bible and theBook of Common Prayer albeit sometimes departing from the original wording. The absence of sections for solo voice has made this anthem a favourite among ambitious choruses and a highlight of any concert programme. Our edition contains the original unabridged version with English text. Martin Focke?s Piano reduction follows the Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition.Original unabridged version.Urtext from the Halle Handel Edition.Straightforward easy-to-play Piano reduction.Full score performance material (BA4267) and Vocal score (BA4267-90) based on the Urtext Halle Handel Edition available for sale.

Oratorio in three parts-Oratorio in three parts The oratorio “Athalia” tells the Old Testament story of the Queen Athalia. Handel composed it in 1733 for Oxford University where it was first performed later that year during the celebrations for the awarding of honorary degrees. The great success of this performance is generally regarded as a reason for Handel’s renewed interest in the oratorio form. As was frequently the case Handel also carried on composing this work after the first performance. Thus for the version which was performed in London in 1735 he introduced numbers in Italian for the Italian singer Carestini in the roleof Joad. He also ended the work with an organ concerto. For the performance in 1756 he drew on other works for the third act. Conversely large parts of the music to Athalia form the basis for other works by Handel such as “Parnasso in festa” (HWV 73) and the Wedding Anthem (HWV 262). The Piano reduction by Andreas Köhs (BA4082-90) based on the Urtext of the “Halle Handel” Edition includes the main version of 1733 together with an appendix containing the versions of 1735 and 1756 as well as the outline of a planned version of 1743 which was not performed. - Based on the Urtext of the “Halle Handel” Edition - Includes all versions - Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng) - Full score (BA4082) and Vocal score (BA4082-90) available for sale - Performance material (BA4082-72) available for hire

Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah caused a sensation at its world première performance, sung in English, in Birmingham UK in August 1846. The huge forces marshalled for the occasion delighted the audience, who demanded no fewer than eight encores and loudly acclaimed the composer despite an injunction to observe the solemnity of the occasion by refraining from applause. Elijah has been an essential repertoire work for choral societies ever since. Published on the 175th anniversary of that famous premiere, Edition Peters is proud to present a new English-language Urtext edition of the vocal score containing the original libretto by William Bartholomew. Edited and with a preface by the highly respected musicologist Klaus Burmeister, the edition also includes a foreword ‘Mendelssohn and Birmingham’ by Simon Halsey, one of the world’s foremost choral directors (Chorus Director City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Choruses; Artistic Director, Orfeó Català Choirs and Artistic Adviser, Palau de la Música, Barcelona; Choral Director, London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; Artistic Director, Berliner Philharmoniker ‘Vokalhelden’ Programme). The edition complements and is designed to be used in conjunction with the existing German/English full score (EP11345) and orchestral parts. An associated German language vocal score is also available (EP11347). Edition Peters Vocal Scores are the choice of the world’s leading choirs and chorus masters. They are practical, reliable, high-quality editions containing expert piano reductions. / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

The ?Petite Messe Solennelle? is the finest work of Rossini?s late years. He composed it between 1863 and 1864 at the age of 71 as a commission for Countess Louise Pillet-Will for the consecration of her private chapel where the work received its first performance in March 1864. Together with the ?Stabat mater? the mass is one of the composer?s most important sacred works. The unusual instrumentation with two Pianos and Harmonium is entirely in keeping with the Neapolitan Keyboard tradition of the 18th century which was cultivated in France in Rossini?s day. It forms a distinct contrast to the style of large-scale sacred compositionsas written by for example Liszt and Bruckner. Rossini explained that he wrote the later Orchestral version of the work dating from 1867 out of concern that if he did not do this other composers might orchestrate the mass too heavily in later arrangements. The Piano reduction by Andreas Köhs is extremely idiomatic and largely preserves the charming character of the unusual instrumentation.- Based on the Urtext of the series ?Works of Gioachino Rossini?.- Foreword in two languages (Eng/Ger).- With a separate Harmonium part and one part for Pianos I and II.

Charles Gounod's Requiem Op. Posth in C for SATB and Piano.Charles Gounod composed this Requiem under the impact of the death of his four-year-old grandson Maurice. According to information handed down while finishing the details of this work he was overtaken by death. It was published posthumously in various constellations by his pupil Henri Busser but the only complete version from the pen of Gounod is the version for large orchestra which is published here for the first time in a critical edition.Gounod?s Requiem unlike many contemporary settings of the Mass of the Dead is not characterized by darkness and terror. Rather with all of itstrepidation expressed through a marked chromaticism an atmosphere of hopeful expectation of trust in the grace and equity of the divine judge predominates. This confidence finds its expression in the choice of the fundamental key of C major which is rather unusual for a requiem. The work was given an impressive performance on the occasion of the first anniversary of Gounod?s death in the Parisian church of Sainte-Madeleine under the direction of Gabriel Fauré and it was highly acclaimed by the contemporary press.

Arranged for female choir (SMA)-The choral scene is in a state of change! On the one hand more and more choirs are lacking in male voices yet at the same time more and more female choirs are looking for high-quality literature beyond folksong arrangements. Bärenreiter is responding to these general trends with the publication of arrangements for three-part female choir (SMA) of well-known frequently-performed works. The first editions to be published are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?s ?Coronation Mass? K. 317 (BA 5691) a much-performed work within the standard repertoire and the ?Missa brevis in D major? K. 194 (BA 5690-90) a charming alternative for use in church services. With great skill andsensitivity to the music Heribert Breuer has carefully retained the substance of the original works at the same time giving them a completely new sound quality.- Arrangements for female choir (SMA) based on the Urtext of the ?New Mozart Edition?- Idiomatic piano reductionsThe arrangerHeribert Breuer was professor of choral conducting and music theory at the Berlin University of the Arts until 2010. He is founder and director of the Berlin Bach Akademie and has made a name for himself with his numerous arrangements of works from Bach to Schubert.

For the new edition of Handel?s ?Alexander?s Feast? the dynamic markings have been thoroughly revised. The three movements which Handel had added are published for the first time in the Vocal score. (+)
Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which with their polyphonic structure are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. A new complete edition volume (BA 10704/01) due to be published in 2013 will include a detailed foreword providing information on the genesis and the first performance of this work as well as information on the psalm on which this work is based and on performance practice. In addition several facsimiles pages will be included giving a view into the source material. The critical commentary will provide a detailed insight into all the available sources and how they have been passed down. This newly revised Urtext performing edition offers a thorough revision of this frequently-performed work and meets all the requisites of a scholarly-critical edition. Former readings in the old edition regarding a small number of pitches but mostly basso continuo figures and the underlying text have now been able to be amended on the basis of the new findings. In the new edition the work appears in nine movements no longer eight which reflects the composer's intentions. The new performance material is not compatible with the old one.Presented in a revised Urtext editionClear straightforward Piano reduction in the vocal scoreUrtext of the Halle Handel EditionFull score performance material (BA10704) & Vocal score (BA10704-90) available for sale

Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. The dating ?nel mese Decembre 1776? on the autograph of the Missa K. 258 is not authentic; it was most likely written towards 1775/76. On the autograph Leopold Mozart inscribed the title Missa but at the incipit on the old cover of the autograph collection he wrote Missa brevis. This points to the lack of standardization and uncertainty of the nomenclature. Although the work is written in the brevis form it calls for additional instruments besides the usual church trio which assigns it to the genre of the brevis et solemnis mass. Mozart added two oboes whose parts he wrote out himself and which are enclosed together with the primary copy. The two oboe parts seemto have been unavailable to any copyists.Urtext of the ?New Mozart Edition?Straightforward piano reduction in the vocal score Ideal for church services and concert performances Full score & performance material (BA4851) and vocal score (BA4851-90) for sale

(+)
A Child Of Our Time is probably Tippett's most celebrated work. It began life in 1938 when Tippett was searching for an appropriate subject for a full-scale oratorio which would be modelled on Handel's Messiah and Bach's Passions. With the Second World War and particularly the news of Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany the idea for A Child Of Our Time was born. He enriched the work with Negro spirituals the perfect modern equivalent to Bach's chorales. The result is an exultant assertion of compassion and brotherhood against all divisions of race or religion. This is the Vocal Score with Piano reduction.

(+)
The first page of the autograph of the Mass K.49 (47d) bears below the author’s name the crossed-out (autograph?) suffix “in Wien” (“in Vienna”). “1768” and “in Wien” have been added by two other unidentified eighteenth-century hands.Mozart’s handwriting and the paper quality appear to verify this information. Moreover Mozart sketched the draft of the Gloria (measures 1 to 18) on a piece of paper the reverse side of which his father had used undoubtedly before that for the fair copy of the piano score of aria no. 11 from Bastien et Bastienne K. 50 (46). In Leopold Mozart’s list of works composed byWolfgang up to 1768 “Eine kleinere Messe a 4 vocibus 2 Violinis &c” (“a small Mass with 4 voices 2 violins etc.”) appears as the penultimate entry; the year 1768 was added by Mozart’s sister. Although the obbligato viola is not mentioned there this comnposition is surely the Mass K.49.- Urtext of the New Mozart Edition- Full score performance material (BA4769) and vocal score (BA4769-90) available for sale.
