Par WIBERNY HEINER. Heiner Wiberny has written this joyful composition for his wife Ulla, who has a special affinity for African Music. The listener recognizes immediately the sound and flavor of 'African Highlife” and 'Latin Funk”. The composition consists of the following parts: chorale-intro, prelude, ABA-theme, transition, violin- and violasolos with 'break'-intros, prelude, AB-theme, Coda. The soloists may play either the written transcriptions or their own improvised solos, whereby the corresponding ensemble sections can be repeated. The phrase markings offer help in the correct stylistic interpretation of the piece, but they can also be changed according to the individual preferences. 'Klaus the fiddler” (Klaus der Geiger) gave the world premier of this work with the String Quartet of the Cologne Kunst-Salon Orchestra (Streichquartett des Kölner Kunstsalonorchesters). The Latvian composer Peteris Vasks, who is known for his atmospheric pieces for string orchestra, “Cantabile”, “Musica dolorosa” and “Voices”, is concentrating increasingly on chamber music: his latest works are the “Partita” for cello and piano, the “Fifth String Quartet” and a piano quartet. Vasks has brought elements of ancient and folk traditions in Latvian music into his compositions. While most of his works have programmatic titles relating to natural processes, Vasks is not concerned with a poetic homage to Nature, nor with depiction of landscape as an aesthetic ideal. The main themes which Vasks explores in his most recent musical work are the reciprocal relationship between man and Nature, the beauty of life and the impending ecological and moral destruction of these values./ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

La durée de vie de Josef Suk (1874-1935), le célèbre compositeur et violoniste professionnel, a été fortement influencé par son appartenance à la célèbre 'Quatuor tchèque' (fondée en 1892). Suk faisait partie du quatuor jusqu'en 1933, se produisant dans près de quatre mille concerts.Le Quatuor à cordes n o 1 en si bémol majeur op. 11 (1896) est la première composition aux côtés de l'op Serenade. 6, qui a été publié par Simrock à la suite de la médiation par Suk père-frère, Antonín Dvorák. Dvorák a examiné ce travail du jeune musicien à être 'le meilleur que je connaisse de lui.' Suk a réécrit le quatrième mouvement, vingt ans après son achèvement, parce qu'il n'était pas satisfait de la version originale. En dépit de son utilisation du même matériau thématique, la nouvelle version se distingue donc nettement que ce mouvement est souvent effectué sur lui-même.La principale source de la forme originale du quatuor était la deuxième édition de Simrock.
