The “Surprise” Symphony (No. 94), incidentally written during the final year of Mozart’s short life, has become one of Haydn’s most memorable works. Symphony No. 2. Par DE HAAN JACOB. Salamander Symphony est une oeuvre en trois mouvements pour orchestre d’harmonie dans laquelle la ville de Kornwestheim, qui se trouve au Bade-Wurtemberg, prend place principale. « Salamander » est le nom de l’usine de chaussures célèbre qui y fut établie en 1899 et symbolise le développement industriel et social de la ville. Dans la symphonie, on retrouve de nombreuses références au sens mythologique des salamandres : ce sont des créatures vigoureuses à l’esprit enflammé. Sans salamandres il n’y aurait pas de feu. De plus, une salamandre peut changer de forme et servir comme vecteur à travers le temps. Mendelssohn is known for the beauty of his melodic themes, and this one from the 'Italian' Symphony certainly fits that category. THEME from SYMPHONY #4 gives impressions of the people and landscapes of this beautiful country. A bucolic sense pervades the score and translates into a restful and uplifting musical experience. Douglas Court has done a marvelous job in bringing the orchestral textures to the young band stage. Par TCHAIKOVSKI PIOTR ILITCH. Throughout the years, composers have found inspiration for their works in simple folk melodies. Tchaikovsky loved Russian folk music all his life. Whilst composing his 2nd symphony, he was inspired by farmers’ songs that fascinated him during a stay in Kamenka (near Kiev). He composed this symphony in 1872/73 and used the melody from the song The Stork as the main theme for the Finale.
