“Composed by Pierre Gabaye, Sonatina is a piece for Bb Clarinet and Piano lasting 12 minutes. Divided into three distinctive parts, this piece is rated as difficult and can be played by advanced players and above levels. The first part, Allegro (4/4, tempo: 120-126), is really energetic as a start evolved shortly after between slower and faster sections. The second part, slower (Largo), starts with the Piano on its own for two measures. This part is strongly influenced by Jazz and features long Clarinet lines supported by a rich Piano accompaniment. Finally, the third part is really fast (Prestissimo) and displays a Piano more present, slightly taking over the Clarinet. This really melodious piece is perfect to be played in contests or for a recital.â€.

Christa Steenhuyse-Vandevelde, born in Belgium, is a composer and piano teacher. She is married to the Belgian clarinet player Bob Van de Velde, and this resulted in this beautiful romance for Bb or A clarinet and piano. Christa's composition style is tonal, harmonious and melodic - wonderfully expressed in this tender romance, reminiscent of the Romances by Schumann. The lyrical clarinet line floats over the rolling triplet accompaniment in the piano part.

Written for the Flanders Clarinet Quartet, this composition is a real Klezmer 'must-play'! The word Sjlimmert (not existing) is a play on words and can be described as a combination of flemish words meaning 'smart' and 'sentimental'. This is a reduction of the version for clarinet quartet, featuring an identical solo part with piano accompaniment.

Kimmo Hakola's Clarinet Concerto (2001) is finally available as a piano reduction and a solo part! The concerto created world-wide buzz after the premiere, which was augmented after the CD release. The Clarinet Concerto is a rich and original work lasting some 40 minutes. It has four movements: the opening movement is dominated by the aggressive toccata-like pounding typical of Hakola. The slow movement, Hidden Songs, is a soaring, melodic and captivating piece of music. The third movement, Allegro farara, is a wild and whirling Oriental dance in a quirky 7/8 rhythm. The finale, which follows without a break, begins with crowd noises that slowly fade. The movement title, Khasene, is the Yiddish for 'wedding'. The nuptials turn out to be quite raucous as Hakola rolls out poignant pathos and rollicking klezmer look-alikes in turn. The soloist is given scope for improvisation.

Kirmo Lintinen composed his clarinet concerto (2012-13) full of rhythmic drive attempting to write for the orchestra as if it were a large chamber ensemble in which listening closely to the other players is both possible and of supreme importance. All four movements of the clarinet concerto are joined together, and their titles say something: prefazione, danze, confessione and finale. Though differing in mood and texture, they all share themes and motifs. The solo cadenza between the third and last movement alludes, as quasi quodlibet suggests, to many motifs, in this case in the past and in the future. Duration c. 23 minutes. The product includes solo part & piano reduction. The orchestral material (instrumentation 2(II+picc)2(II+c.ing)2(II+cl.b)21-2200-11-str) is available for hire from the publisher.

Instrumentally acrobatic Buster! Caprice for clarinet and piano (2002-2003, rev. 2007) by Kirmo Lintinen gives a hint of ragtime, sings romantically and makes the fast changes of articulations, dynamics, registers, and timbres musical counterparts of the pantomime of virtuoso actors in silent films. Kirmo Lintinen (b. 1967) is a man of many musical talents: composer, pianist and conductor. His catalogue encompasses almost all genres and categories of composition, from solo work to opera, and he operates with ease from one to another without being a crossover artist; in his case, the versatility is both internalised and innate. He often finds inspiration in French music of the 1920s and its intrinsic musicality. Humour and playfulness are characteristic elements of his music, as are a natural, musicianly approach and an enchantingly effervescent, even tongue-in-cheek texture.

Pindar is Dead is a short scherzo for clarinet and piano written in 1968 for Alan Hacker who gave it its first performance in London that year. Pindar is Dead is from Louis MacNeice and the poem expresses disillusionment at the banal activities of an Easter bank holiday. Dalby's music is simple and lighthearted and includes some of the effects with which Alan Hacker was experimenting at that time. The composer's use of the title refers goodnaturedly to his own disillusionment at the August bank holiday which he spent writing it.
