15 easy viola pieces for the second year-More Viola Fun the sequel to Viola Fun is meant for second year viola pupils. As before a real orchestra plays along with you on the accompanying CD. Many of the titles show that several musical instruments may join you for example an oboe or a flute amongst others. You can easily tell by looking at the titles and the beautiful illustrations which instruments to expect.

Many violists have grown up on a diet of Violin studies transcribed for Viola and plenty have thrived on them even though the studies are in many cases composed with melodic patterns and fingerings that suit the Violin better than the Viola. Robin Ireland's aim in composing this new study material was to write specifically for the Viola in ways which suit it both technically and tonally.The twelve concert études set out to be musically attractive pieces which in addition to addressing most basic aspects of technique will encourage the development of 'musical' and expressive playing.The set of études is unusual perhaps unique in that it covers a rangeof styles and thus provides a focus for developing an understanding of bowing and articulation appropriate to different periods of music. The first eight études move through baroque classical and romantic styles while the later études include material for developing confidence with metre change and other basic rhythmic skills and with atonality. The last étude introduces an improvisatory style of playing.The concert études should be appropriate for Viola students from Grade 8 upwards. Published in 1927 20 studies for Viola is the most famous work by Maurice Vieux (1884-1951) a French violist. Composed for upper intermediate / advanced players these twenty studies of two pages each will help to improve bow technique. Double stops are performed by depressing and playing two separate strings together to form a dual tone and create harmonic interest. Maurice Hauchard (1870-1957) was a French violinist and composer. As a minor composer often in the shadow of his contemporary Maurice Ravel much of Hauchard's music is not widely known. However his Études Des Positions have enhanced the technical progression of many violinists and Alain Mames' transcription of the studies for Viola have also been well-received. As an excellent versatile musician Hauchard loved his art and remains one of the greatest contributors to music education. Études Des Positions (3rd Position) addresses the third handposition in the context of musical techniques such as intervals scales chromaticism and is studies of varying styles. Mames' adaption for the Viola of Hauchard's Études Des Positions is an imperative aid to technical progression.
