Intermezzo scene for Recorder/Flute group, Vibraphone and Percussion arranged by A. Rosenstengel from the original Orchestral piece by Albert W. Ketelbey. An oriental atmosphere pervades this work. The cattle-drivers slowly approach the market; the cries of beggars are heard across the bustle. The beautiful princess enters carried by her servants - she stays to watch the jugglers and snake-charmer. The Caliph now passes through the market and interrupts the entertainment, the princess prepares to depart and the caravan resumes its journey as the sounds of the Persian Market fade into the distance. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Parts for String Quartet No.3 'Angel's Music' by Bent Sorensen (1988) Premiered ...(+)
Parts for String Quartet No.3 'Angel's Music' by Bent Sorensen (1988) Premiered by the Arditti String Quartet at the Danish Radio Concert Hall 16 November 1988. Score available: KP00250 The composer writes: 'Even when I was writing Adieu, I knew that I wished to write Angels Music. The title existed in an incomplete form in my mind and gradually more and more ideas and a few outlines became clear. The actual work on Angels Music was started in Rome, where I spent the autumn of 1987 staying at The Danish Academy. Whether this stay has influenced the quartet or not is impossible to say. however, it is true to say that, in the Roman churches I visited, I saw countless angels playing in the top of frescoes and altars. Without these angels, together with the many crackled-gold paintings in this city and my general fascination with the Italian renaissance painter Fra Angelico, (in fact there are only a few paintings by him in Rome, but even his name..!) I am not sure my quartet would have been what it is. Anyway I do feel that there is a bit of Italy in the piece. The angels apart there are, in the short rhythmic agitating part of the quartet, reminiscences of the Italian medieval Trotto dance, and in the most expressive part ofthe piece there are flashes of Puccini-like music. From the very beginning of my work on the quartet, the distant, extremely muted sound in the high register which opens the piece, was on my mind. A sound satiated with a dense heterophonic and polyphonic texture of elegiac melody and vibrating trills. I imagined that little songs (maybe angel songs) could be created in this density, these songs constantly echoing themselves. Gradually as this sound got a more and more concrete musical and instrumental form, I felt, that not only should the little songs be created, played and die out in an echo, but also that the general pattern of the quartet should give the feeling of music which, from the distance, is getting closer and closer, culminates and at last disappears like an echo. Related to this, the general pattern of Angels Music is divided into three: a pre-echo, culmination and echo.. The relationship between the three part is 5: 6: 4. The reason why I can say this precisely and prosaically is that it was necessary to me to mark the overall guidelines before I started to compose. I had to do this in order to enable the relationships to crawl from the small cells into the general pattern.'

Published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen (HL.14025897). Danish. Programme note : Portrait was written in the spring 1998, at a time when I was a regular visitor in a rest home in an old back building in the town centre of Copenhagen. There I came to know an old lady whose daily life was darkened by despair. She would stand in the corridor in the grey winter light and silently knock at the window frames. Or one could hear her knock at a door at the distance - almost furiously. 'It is screaming inside me', she said. She then could change into a little girl when I went with her into her room and stayed a little. This piece is an attempt to sketch a portrait of Caya. By Rob Grice. Intermediate Wind Band/Ensemble. FJH Developing Band. During the war of 1812 after much of Washington had been destroyed, the British army proceeded toward the Baltimore harbor, which was guarded by Fort McHenry. To block the ensuing army, American troops had sunk several ships to barricade the entry into the harbor. This forced the British to bombard Fort McHenry from a great distance. On the night of September 13, American prisoners on a British ship watched the fire in the night sky as the British army bombarded Fort McHenry. After many hours of continuous bombing, the British decided to leave, unable to destroy the fort. Score for this title: B1304S. Extra part for this title: B1304P. Concert Band. Level: 1.5. | Semele, HWV 58 Soli, Mixted choir and accompaniment Soli, mixted choir, orchestra Barenreiter
Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA04025-01 Composed by George Fr...(+)
Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA04025-01 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gesellschaft e. V. Risinger and Mark. This edition: Complete edition. Linen. Complete edition, Score. HWV 58. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA04025-01. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA04025-01). ISBN 9790006443222. 33 x 26 cm inches. Text Language: English. Handelâ??s â??Semeleâ?, which premiered in February 1744, is based on an adapted version of William Congreveâ??s opera libretto titled â??The Story of Semeleâ?, originally published in 1706. However, neither Handel nor his librettist referred to â??Semeleâ? as an opera or an oratorio, which, according to the understanding at the time, would have required a biblical and/or Christian subject matter. Contemporary audiences also disagreed on the genre. The problematic classification as an oratorio has persisted into the present day, likely due to the edition labeled as such by Chrysander. The â??Halle Handel Editionâ? (HHA) distances itself from this classification and, considering the available sources, refrains from assigning a genre label.
Congreve deviates from the mythological source multiple times in order to create tensions among the characters. The desired marriage between Semele and Athamas, whom she does not love, is an addition by Congreve to provoke the envy of her sister Ino, who desires Athamas herself. Therefore, Ino sees her own advantage in Semeleâ??s abduction by Jupiter. While Jupiterâ??s wife Juno decides to destroy Semele out of jealousy for his relationship with her, Jupiter brings Ino to his palace to console Semele. The vengeful Juno takes advantage of Inoâ??s presence and transforms into her likeness, persuading Semele to carry out a plan that later proves fatal. In the end, Ino emerges as the winner, as she is able to convince their father, Cadmus, to marry her to Athamas. The appearance of Apollo in the final scene to announce that Semeleâ??s immortal son Bacchus was saved from her ashes provides little consolation. However, this twist allows the drama to conclude with exuberant joy and a magnificent final chorus after the tragic scenes in the third act, culminating in the death of the protagonist.
Handelâ??s autograph score shows significant deviations from and numerous revisions of the original version premiered. All surviving early versions, the musical movements deleted before the premiere, and the version of the December 1744, are given in the appendix to the HHA.

| Asbjorn Schaathun: Actions Interpolations And Analyses (Score) Music Sales
Bass Clarinet and Orchestra SKU: HL.14001122 Composed by Asbjorn Schaathu...(+)
Bass Clarinet and Orchestra SKU: HL.14001122 Composed by Asbjorn Schaathun. Music Sales America. Classical. Score. Music Sales #KP00663. Published by Music Sales (HL.14001122). ISBN 9788759855669. Danish. ACTIONS, INTERPOLATIONS AND ANALYSES, symphonies for bass-clarinet and large ensemble (1987-90), is what is commonly termed a work in progress. So far Schaathun has completed three of five parts. The is the composer's first large-scale attempt to investigate possible connections between ostensibly unrelated material. Explained in simple terms, it involves taking two of Schaathun's own type of texture (composed by means of different techniques) and letting them rotate around a familiar musical object (in this case a short excerpt from Stravinskij's Symphonies of Wind instruments in which he employs the famous frozen chords). In the course of the piece the elements takes over various characteristics from one another and the form progresses from fairly clear-cut textures to a situation where the various textures are superimposed, creating a dramatic flow. On a more advanced level, the piece is about trying to mediate between different musical textures as metaphors for the different levels of the sound itself. One of the main questions in this context is; What is size in music? Is it possible to take a small chord(i.e. narrow register, few instruments, simple tone colours) and then blow it up (wide register, many instruments, advanced mixtures) in such a way that the listener still perceives it as the same chord? You have simply moved closer to the sound. At any rate, when Schaathun composed the piece, he himself travellig into the sound, as if were viewing a texture from a distance. He then recomposed the same situation and drew closer, and then recompose it a third time and simply get close enough to discover the world of sounds that thus emerged. A world of sounds capable of travelling at a tremendous speed... However, like all concertos, the piece is of course about the individual and his relationship to his surroundings (society). Schaathun has often pondered on the reason for this preoccupation wih solo concertos. The answer derives from his firm conviction that nothing would ever happen if it weren't for the initiative, the Action, of the individual. $61.25 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
