Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) Flute Concerto in G was written by the composer in 1778. The Concerto remains widely studied and performed on the Flute making it one of the most important Concerti in the instrument's repertoire. Concerto in G is in three movements; 1. Allegro maestoso 2. Adagio ma non troppo and 3. Rondo: Tempo di Menuetto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of D major. A Dutch flautist of the time Ferdinand de Jean commissioned Mozart for four Flute quartets and three Flute concerti. However thecomposer who famously disliked the Flute only completed three quartets and two concertos. Instead of composing a second concerto Mozart rearranged his Oboe Concerto with substantial changes for it to fit with the Flute. This edition of Mozart's Concerto in G includes cadences by virtuosos Taffanel Gaubert and Bozza making for an unmissable version of the famed work.

Composed by Makoto Shinohara Kassouga is a piece for advanced Flute players accompanied by a Piano. This work lasts 6 minutes and is dedicated to Hirohiko Kato. Very difficult the first section of the piece slowly but expressively and includes a Cadenza by the Flute solo. The second part is then introduced fast energetic and rhythmic before another Cadenza by the Solo Flute leading to the end of the work finishing really harmoniously. It is a melodious work that is relatively challenging and could be played in recitals or for contests. Makoto Shinohara is a Japanese composer from Osaka. He studied in France withOlivier Messiaen and Tony Aubin and in Germany with Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Gottfried Koenig. He wrote some Orchestral pieces some chamber music some electronic music and some works for traditional Japanese instruments.

After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opéra he was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed including his Romance which premiered in 1905. Beethovenâ??s Sonata In B Flat wascomposed ca. 1790 and is one of the very few pieces that he wrote for the Flute. The Rondo In E Minor was written in 1810 by Mozartâ??s youngest son Franz Xaver Wolfgang who often struggled to gain recognition on his ownmerits during his lifetime.
