Il Legato è senza dubbio una delle tecniche basilari e fondamentali della chitarra. Basata essenzialmente su due movimenti: l'Hammer-on (legato ascendente) e il Pull-off (legato discendente), questa tecnica permette di ottenere fraseggi fluidi e veloci dal momento che si riduce al minimo l'uso della mano destra. Si parte dall'impostazione base delle due mani per prendere poi in esame singolarmente sia l'Hammer-on che il Pull-off.
