The composer and organist Paul Siefert, baptized in Gdansk on 28 June 1586 and died there on 6 May 1666, belongs to the 'North German organ school'. Thanks to a grant of the town council of Gdansk, Siefert spent the years from 1607 until probably late 1610 studying in Amsterdam where he got important ideas and suggestions as a pupil of Sweelinck. After his return he became deputy organist in Gdansk. From 1611 to 1616 he worked as an organist first at the church in the old town of Konigsberg, then at the Warsaw court orchestra. On 23 September 1623 he was appointed organist at the Marienkirche of Gdansk in succession to Michael Weyda where he worked until the end of his life. This edition of his organ works contains 13 fantasias, two chorale preludes and a motet as well as a detailed description of the work in the preface and in the critical report.

The first piece “Sicut ros Hermon†(Psalm 133) meditates on the path God’s mercy takes, whereby the initial slow descending harmonic sequences develop into an emphatic song followed by a tender chorale-like coda. “Si sumpsero pennas aurorae†(Psalm 139) relates to a highly poetic, consolatory but also admonishing image of the psalm: As far as our wings may carry us, God’s hand will take hold of us. We cannot escape his mercy or his judgement. At the end of this striking movement the music conveys almost haptic moments; one can sense the mighty ‘hand’ by means of the tutti sound. Finally the music becomes as calm as at the start of this piece, though dialogue-like figurations convey repercussions of what was experienced and acknowledged.

Mit einer 'Ciacona lunatica' wird im letzten Satz dem Wachsen und majestatischen Erscheinen des 'Vollmondes' gehuldigt - mit Variationen uber ein geheimnisvolles Bass- und Harmoniemodell. Chorale settings form a central part of Telemann's oeuvre. His 1754 setting of the church hymn Christus, der ist mein Leben, based on Melchoir Vulpius' melody from the Hamburg Hymnal, is especially well-suited to display his mastery in depicting the words of the chorale. Before Rheinberger came to public attention as an organ composer with the publication of his first Organ Sonata op. 27, he had already written a few shorter works for his favorite instrument. These include the three Preludes and Fugues JWV 10, 13 and 16 which Rheinberger composed at the age of just 15. Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition. The vocal score has been newly prepared to reflect current practical requirements. As an economical alternative, a chorus score is available. Bruckner's Te Deum is also available in carus music, the choir app. The app contains the music and a recording, as well as a coach to help with learning each choral part.
