For solo Cello Timpani and Strings.Popule Meus was commissioned through the Magnum Opus project: Kathryn Gould founding patron and commissioner and Meet the Composer project manager.It was first performed on 6thFebruary 2010 by Yuri Hooker (cello) and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Micklethwate. Composer's Notes 'Popule Meus is a meditation on the Judaic and Christian text ?O my People whathave I done to you?? but itis also a Universalist contemplation of the wholesale rejection of God by modern man. However much manrejects God he cannot escape Him and indeed he is condemned to the supernatural by his deiformnature. InHindu terms he is the Absolute Ayam Atma Brahma (The Self is the Absolute).In this work the solo cello is the All-Compassionate One while the timpani represent man in his vain andpointless rejection. Although the solocello and strings and the timpani share the same material (four ideas aregradually revealed and they revolve four times during the piece) the timpani music is violent and becomesincreasingly frenzied and contracted while thecello and strings remain still and serene.So even in winning the Darkness loses and even in losing the Light wins. Passion Resurrection andRedemption; or in Hindu terms Atma (The Absolute) alone is real Maya (The Relative) ismerely illusion.'

18 tuneful and jazzy pieces for the beginner celli-The tunes in Mellow Cello are designed to provide an introduction to jazz and popular music styles for young cellists ranging from beginners to performers at a somewhat more advanced level. The first pieces use only open strings both pizzicato and bowed: here the cellist gains experience in counting rests as well as exploring the four strings. From pieces 4 to 9 the fingers are brought into play starting with the first finger only until all four are used. The pieces in the second half of the book allow the cellist to explore a variety of jazz styles. A piano accompaniment part is included for concert performances.

Andrew Talle has fundamentally reassessed the relations between the surviving sources and has drawn conclusions regarding their evaluation and consequently the genesis of the suites. His evaluations are augmented with thorough discussions of the instrument for which the suites were conceived and the interpretative practices in Bach's day.The musical text of the edition is based on these findings. It approaches the composer's original intentions as far as the sources will permit. Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor Op. 85 his last notable work is a cornerstone of the solo Cello repertoire. In contrast with Elgar's earlier Violin Concerto which is lyrical and passionate the Cello Concerto written in the aftermath of the First World War is for the most part contemplative and elegiac. The four-movement concerto scored for solo Cello 2 Flutes 2 Oboes 2 Clarinets in A 2 Bassoons 4 Horns in F 2 Trumpets in C 3 Trombones Tuba Timpani and Strings did not achieve wide popularity until the 1960s however is now regarded to 'rank not only among his finest works but among the greatest ofits kind' (Michael Kennedy).Sir Edward William Elgar was an English composer many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Although Elgar is often regarded as ‘typically English’ most of his musical influences were not from England but from continental Europe.

The editor of this complete edition is a musicologist and a noted expert on Kabelac's work Dr. Zdenek Nouza. The outline of the edition is as follows: I. Orchestral and Concert compositions II. compositions for solo Voice or a Chorus with Orchestra or Instrumental Ensemble III. songs with Piano Choruses Children's Choruses IV. Chamber compositions V. compositions for Piano and Organ.Sonata Op.9 for Cello and Piano which came into existence betweenyears 1941-42 has never been published before. Therefore as part of the Complete Edition this composition appears in print for the first time. Its edition is based on an authograph present in the Museum of Czech Music in Prague. The prominent Czech cello player Daniel Veis who also premiered the complete four-movement version has revised the cello part of this edition.

Sonata in G Minor for Solo Cello was written in 1924 and scored in four movements: Quasi a Piacere Cantabile Sostenuto Recitativo Liberamente Allegro Con Moto Perpetuo. Apparently inspired bythe seminal Kodaly Sonata for the same instrument it is a challenging piece suitable for any aspiring virtuoso performer. Sir Granville Bantock (1868-1946) was a British composer conductor and educator. Hechannelled his energetic and creative personality into many musical projects championing the works of Jean Sibelius founding the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and composing many splendid classical pieces. Viewed by hiscontemporaries as out-of-date his music is now being appreciated as one of the last great contributions from the English Romantic movement.
