For Clarinet Quartet-The American composer George Gershwin (1898-1937) wrote the energetic song I Got Rhythm with lyrics by his brother Ira Gershwin in 1930 for the musical Girl Crazy. The story of Girl Crazy takes place in the theatre world of the 1930s. The Gaiety Theater in Deadrock Nevada is practically bankrupt but the rich banker’s son Bobby Child turns things around. His passion for the theatre leads to the customary love vicissitudes and comical intricacies - and a new successful show. I Got Rhythm now a jazz standard has been performed over the years by numerous famous and not-so-famous artists. The chord scheme has become so well-known that it hasbeen named rhythm changes and is often used by jazz musicians.

From The Planets-Jupiter Hymn est un arrangement délicieusement accessible du quatrième mouvement extrait du poème symphonique en sept mouvements The Planets (Les Planètes) de Gustave Holst : Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity (Jupiter celui qui apporte la gaieté). Holst s?inspira de notre système solaire lorsqu?il composa cette suite l?une de ses ?uvres les plus connues donnant à chacun des mouvements sa propre couleur. Holst écrivit Les Planètes au début du XXe siècle employant une certaine signature alors inhabituelle (mesures à 5/4) faisant appel à de nombreuses dissonances et une instrumentation atypique.

Composed by Pierre-Max Dubois  Quartuor is a really energetic and melodious piece for four Bb Clarinets. Lasting approximately 10 minutes it is divided into four distinct parts: 1. Allegretto 2. Allegro 3. Pastorale and 4. Musette. During the whole piece the Clarinets complete each other’s part on this fast work. The first part has a repetitive theme with some variations while the second one seems to be playing more on the aspects of the low and high ranges. The “Pastorale” section is slower and slightly less cheerful. The piece ends on the “Musette” which brings back some energybefore the end. This piece would be perfect to play during a concert or a recital. Pierre Max Dubois (1930-1995) was a French composer who was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1955. Mainly composing classical music his works are mainly for woodwinds. He is one of the founder of the Les Six and which included his professor Darius Milhaud.
