Violinist Maria Bachmann and pianist Jon Klibanoff premiered Philip Glass' three-movement work Sonata For Violin And Piano on February 28th 2009 at Whitaker Center in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.The piece was commissioned by retired architect Martin Murray to commemorate the 70th birthday of his wife Lucy Miller Murray.

Rondino was first published in 1900 as the fourth in a collection of eight Bagatelles (Op. 18) for solo Violin with Piano accompaniment. It was composed by the violinist composer and pedagogue Gustav Ellerton who is also known for his collection of 6 Morceaux Mignons (Op. 21). Each Bagatelle in the collection is designed for the young and beginner violinists; each movement can be played entirely in the first position. No. 4 Rondino is a semiquaver movement that is ideal for developing dexterity and rhythmic pulse in the fingers of the left hand.

L’année 1873 représenta pour Dvorák un tournant. Suite au refus de son opéra «Le Roi et le charbonnier», il essaya de donner une nouvelle direction à son œuvre. Son Quatuor à cordes en fa mineur op. 9, achevé la même année, devait marquer le coup d’envoi d’un nouveau style, moins influencé par la musique de Wagner – à sa grande déception ce quatuor subit un échec auprès des musiciens. Malgré ces expériences douloureuses, Dvorák donna une deuxième chance au mouvement lent du Quatuor et le transforma en une Romance pour violon et orchestre ou piano, laquelle fut exécutée en 1877 avec beaucoup de succès.
