The composition the Lonesome Knight was based on a fairytale. The piece was written by Saskia Apon for the National Brass Band Championships 2001.
Once upon a time there was a knight who went to fight and defeat the dragon that had beenkilling the people of his town. There is a short but intense battle between the two and the knight is triumphant. However whilst persuing the dragon the knight has travelled far away from his home and now is lost. He roames around trying to findhis way home, but exhausted and weary he falls to the ground. He awakens startled by a Giant and a group of Goblins who are celebrating the death of the dragon. The knight joins in the festivities but after a long evening is once more leftalone. The sun rises the following morning and he sees a castle on the horizon. He enthousiastcally ventures towards the castle in the hope of meeting other people. However he becomes greatly disillusioned when there is none to be found. Inhis desperation the knight climbs the tower ready to jump off. Suddenly he hears a heavenly voice. Right before him is the most beautiful princess he has ever seen. She graciously thanks him for killing the dragon, a spark ingnites between themand they build a life together and.... live happily ever after!
Saskia Apon studied harp at Rotterdam School of music. With this instrument she rounded of her studies by passing with credit, however it was her love of composition thatremained her focus. Self-taught, she began composing at the age of nine. Since then she has written pieces for The Dutch Brass Quintet, The Dutch Brass Ensemble, The Rotterdam Trombone Quartet and the brass band quintet Brass Ability. Atpresent she is the in-house arranger for The Rotterdam Philarmonic Brass Ensemble. Besides the customary attention for the real splashworks she endeavours to add value to the melodic function of the brass wind instruments in her music. Brass Band - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.GOB-000833-030 Composed by Rob Goorhuis. Set (Score & Parts). 24 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000833-030. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000833-030). Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa in 1451. His father was a wool merchant. Originally he seemed destined to follow in his father’s footsteps, and thus sailed the oceans to countries as far apart as Iceland and Guinea. In 1476 his ship was sunk during a battle off the coast of Portugal. Columbus saved his own life by swimming to shore. In 1484 he conceived the idea of sailing to the Indies via a westward sea route, but it was only in 1492 that he was able to realize this plan. On this first voyage he was in command of three ships: the flag-ship, called the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Ni?a. From Spain Columbus sailed via the Canary Islands to the Bahamas, whichhe sighted on October 12th 1492. Without being aware of it Columbus discovered the ‘New World’ he thought he had landed in the eastern part of Asia. The motif from Dvoøák’s 9th Symphony ‘Aus der neuen Welt’ forms a little counterfeit history at this point in the composition. After this first voyage Columbus was to undertake another three long voyages to America. These voyages were certainly not entirely devoid of misfortune. More than once he was faced with shipwreck, mutiny and the destruction of settlements he had founded. After Columbus had left for Spain from Rio Belen in 1503, he beached his ships on the coast of Jamaica. The crew were marooned there and it was only after a year that Columbus succeeded in saving his men and sailing back to Spain with them. In the music the misunderstanding about which continent Columbus discovered in his lifetime resounds, for does this part in the composition not contain Asiatic motifs? Poor Columbus! In 1506 the famous explorer died in Valladolid.
Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1104910-130). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. In his own distinctive style, Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Händel. Van Beringen used Bach’s chorale Brich an, o schönes Morgenlicht (‘Break forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light’) from his Christmas Oratorio and the recitative Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with Us from Händel’s Messiah. A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!
$25.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1165658-030 Composed by Stephen Bulla. Concert and Contest Collection Brass Band en Fanfare. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2016. De Haske Publications #DHP 1165658-030. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1165658-030). English-German-French-Dutch. Dedicated to the North American Brass Band Association, this is music that is full of energy and dynamic extremes. In form it draws from the overture style, although the themes are self-existing and the piece is programmatic. Working well asa festival opener, it sets a mood of excitement. Following the rhythmic fanfares of the opening, the first theme is presented in the cornets followed by a return to the same rhythmic material. A second theme appears in the horn section and isdeveloped, changing into a darker and sinister form of the same motif. Eventually a Maestoso section is reached, full of sustained block chords in the cornets and trombones, as the rest of the band counters with cascading lines that weavestraight through the brighter instruments.
$110.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Published by Curnow Music (BT.CMP-1259-09-130). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. Troika is a Russian word that means a group of three but it also means a light Russian sleigh pulled by three horses. Christmas Troika portrays the joy of Christmas via a musical sleigh-ride. Listen as the glistening snow crinkles beneath the weight of the sleigh and the hooves of the prancing horses as it travels through the countryside. One can almost see the frost on the trees and hear the wind blow and the sleigh-bells ring as the tune O Come, All Ye Faithful winds its way through the music.
$19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

It was only composing that distracted him from this misery. Brass Band - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.GOB-000990-030 Composed by William Vean. S...(+)
Brass Band - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.GOB-000990-030 Composed by William Vean. Set (Score & Parts). 60 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000990-030. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000990-030). The Netherlands have been an important trading nation for a long time partly as a result of their geographical situation. One of the first multinationals in The Netherlands was the ‘Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie’ (VOC). The aim of the VOC was to send ships to Asia in order to buy pepper and spices, and to take over the Portuguese monopoly in this field. The Company was successful. An era of great prosperity resulted, in which the art of painting (Rembrandt van Rijn) as well as science (Constantijn Huygens) flourished alongside a thriving economy.
1. The Sails are set : There is a lot of hustle and bustle on the quay. The crew are preparing fordeparture. Goodbyes are said and once the sails have been hoisted the ship sets out to sea.
2. A Visit to the Rajah of Yogyakarta: After a voyage of many months the place of destination is reached. A visit to the Radja, the king of the area around Yokyakarta, follows. The dishes and beverages and the native culture in general are very pleasant after having been on a diet of ship’s biscuit and water for such a long time.
3. The Holds have been loaded: The holds have been loaded to the brim, and the voyage home can be begin!
4. Death sails along: Life at sea is rough. not seldom did a sailor die of a tropical disease or scurvy. After a memorial service, the Captain would speak the words ‘One, two, three, in God’s name ...’ and the body, wrapped in canvas, would be committed to the sea.
5. A joyful homecoming: After many months of hardship coming home is perhaps the best part of the entire voyage. The quay is filled with people eager to give the crew a warm welcome.
2. A Visit to the Rajah of Yogyakarta: Na een maandenlange reis wordt de bestemming bereikt.
3. The Holds have been loaded: De laadruimtes zijn volgestouwd. De thuisreis kan beginnen.
$110.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1074238-030 Composed by Jan de Haan. Performance, Inspiration and Sovereign. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2007. De Haske Publications #DHP 1074238-030. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1074238-030). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. This colourful work is based on the adventures of ChristopherColumbus and his voyages to discover Africa and other newterritories around the World. The theory that the earth wasround urged Columbus to try and reach Asia by sailing west.A truly exotic work that grasps the drive and excitement ofthe world's greatest explorer.
$135.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

In 1911 the Russian impresario Diaghilev commisioned Paul Dukas to compose music for the famous ballet fairy-tale 'La Perie'by Jean Coralli. Fokine was to make a new choreography, so that the Russian ballet company 'Ballet Russes' would be able to perform the piece in Paris that same year. Due to a quarrel between Diaghilev and Dukas about who should dance the title-part, however, the ballet was not performed by the 'Ballet Russes'but by another company in 1912. The ballet 'La Perie' is Dukas' last symphonic work.
