“Waloyo Yamoni (We Overcome the Wind)†is the grand finale to Christopher Tin's second album 'The Drop That Contained the Sea'. The lyrics are a setting of a Lango rainmaking prayer. It was commissioned by the St. Matthews Chamber Orchestra, and recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with the Soweto Gospel Choir. The Miserere is based on the Prelude and Fugue in B-flat minor from the 1st part of the “Well-Tempered Clavier†by Johann Sebastian Bach. In his choral version, Heribert Breuer transposes the original down a third and inserts words from the 51st Psalm, one of the seven penitential psalms.
The composer Heribert Breuer conducts the Berlin Bach Academy, which he founded. He is particularly known for his arrangements of instrumental pieces for diverse ensembles. His choral adaptions (e.g., also in our Choral Collection Beethoven and Bruckner. Secular Choral Music) offer a fresh perspective on the originals and are a valuable addition to the repertoire of any interested choir. The Miserere was recorded by the Calmus Ensemble for the CD “Bach for fiveâ€.

Georg Kreisler - that's sharp, profoundly dark humor! The Singphoniker have arranged Georg Kreisler's most famous songs for male ensemble and recorded on CD. The corresponding sheet music edition for female choir SSAA with piano accompaniment was published by Schott Music (Georg Kreisler - Lieder und Chansons, ED22736). In addition to this, individual editions of all songs from the sheet music album are available: The fact that the triangle is a highly underrated instrument is obvious. How good that Kreisler's ambiguous homage to this instrument definitively clarifies its significance. This appealing arrangement with Kreisler's humorous lyrics guarantees a lively atmosphere in the concert.

Sei mein! was written and composed by Peter Cornelius in 1865 for his future wife Bertha Jung. The composer set the poem in short rhyming lines using the scheme aaabcccb, recounting with loving humor what his beloved means to him. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted them to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing the any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD Kennst du das Land ... (Carus 83.495).
