Along with Symphonies Nos. 80 and 81, Haydn’s Symphony in F major Hob. I:79 belongs to a group of works that he composed in late 1784. He wrote them for his employer Prince Nikolaus Esterházy who wished to be entertained with new music. The symphonies were tailored for the twenty-five to thirty musicians who were in the prince’s court orchestra.Continuing the cooperation between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies, this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the “Works of Joseph Haydnâ€. Bärenreiter has already published the complete performance material for several “Sturm und Drang†symphonies and all the Paris and London symphonies.

Handel’s Concerto in F major (HWV 331) was long considered a variant of two movements from the three suites of his “Water Music†(HWV 348-350). Recently our understanding of the “Water Music†had to be thoroughly revised owing to new scholarly discoveries. Not only did the structure of the three suites prove to be unhistorical, but Friedrich Chrysander’s 19th-century view turned out to be correct: the two “variants†actually constitute an independent concerto. In musical terms, HWV 331 is related to two movements of the “Water Music†and is frequently performed alongside them. Now it is available for the first time in a performing edition based on the already revised volume of the “Halle Handel Editionâ€, which reflects the current state of scholarship concerning the complex source tradition of the “Water Music†and the Concerto HWV 331.

Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) completed the 1st version of his Mass No. 3 in F minor in 1863, as Otto Kitzler was introducing him to the music of Richard Wagner, the composer he would emulate for the rest of his life. John Herbeck, who conducted the initial rehearsals for its premiere at the Augustinerkirch on June 16, 1872, warmly declared that it stood beside Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in greatness. Bruckner, often self-critical as a composer, went on to revise the work no less than four times until it was finally published it in 1894. More often heard today in the concert hall than in the church, the sprawling, hour-long work is admired today for its powerful directness. This critical edition was created in 1944 for the Bruckner Gesamtausgabe by Robert Maria Haas.

Piano concertos combine two elements: pure playing and full poetic expression. Virtuosity and romance. Pianistic brilliance, educated in the works in the stile brillant, brought to perfection, but at the same time - a farewell. Both are forms of direct expression of the personality of the composer, which showed itself in them for the first time with so much strength and is manifested in a group of characteristics of forming Chopin's individual style. Piano Concerto in F minor In terms of size, substantially smaller than the E minor concerto and also a different kind of expression: more lyrical, drawn in delicate pastel colours. Especially famous is the second movement, the Larghetto, which Chopin wrote under the inspiration of his first love. Critical source-edition edited by Jan Ekier and Pawel Kaminski based on manuscripts, copies approved by Chopin himself, and first editions. Its purpose is to present the works of Chopin in authentic form.

The Symphony in F minor, Pleyel’s only complete surviving orchestral work in this key, was published in 1787 by Jean Jérôme Imbault in Paris and was probably written the previous year or even slightly earlier. Its source of inspiration is easily indentifiable, namely Joseph Haydn’s Sturm und Drang works of the late 1760s and early 1770s.
