Drummer Dances is based primarily on rhythms from two famous drum solos. The first 30 bars take the rhythms from Max Roach's solo in 'Delilah Dances', as recorded on the Clifford Brown and Max Roach album. The music develops further using the four bar drum breaks from the same composition. Elvin Jones' drum solo 'Monks Dream' is the other rhythmical source material in this piece. I use 32 bars of this solo in a more linear development. Two distinct melodies are heard throughout this piece, they appear in different variations within the various rhythms the two drum solos provide.

A Klezmer Wedding is a set of four dances, newly composed but based on traditional models. The Doina is an expressive chant for three successive soloists; it twists and turns with the wailing lament of a shepherd's pipe. Next follows the Hora, a slow Rumanian dance in three with a mood that reflects the wedding's solemn vows. A Chusidl, with a moderate speed and bouncy rhythms, gets the party to the dance floor. The concluding Freylach (happy, but still in a minor key!) takes the bride, groom, and guests to the edge of frenzy. Arranged for four clarinets with optional strings. Compatible with the following arrangements: item #01-ADV6401 (string quartet), item #01-ADV8405 (woodwind quartet), and item #01-ADV8406 (clarinet quartet). Titles include: Doina * Hora * Chusidl * Freylach.

This nice-and-easy-to-perform ragtime, Rag Is Back by Valentin Hude, features a number of catchy tunes. Every individual voice carries the melody. Written for the Flanders Clarinet Quartet, this composition is a real Klezmer 'must-play'! The word Sjlimmert (not existing) is a play on words and can be described as a combination of flemish words meaning 'smart' and 'sentimental'. The quartet is written for 3 Bb and bass clarinet. The first part takes the lead as soloist.

This is the most popular of the 21 Hungarian Dances which Brahms completed in 1869. Originally written for piano four-hands, this dance was based on the Csardas by Béla Kéler which Brahms mistakenly thought was a traditional folksong. The arrangement is by Nestor Janssens, former solo clarinettist of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra.
