Henry Purcell (1659-1695) held numerous appointments at the Royal Court and Westminster Abbey and is considered by many to be the greatest ever English-born composer. His prolific work covered all fields: orchestral ecclesiastical operatic theatrical incidental and chamber music were all enriched by his output. Abdelazer also known as The Moor's Revenge was a 1676 play. Purcell later composed incidental music for a revival of it in the 1690s. He wrote ten movements in total the most famous of which was later used as the theme for Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Four of these have beenarranged here for Organ by Desmond Ratcliffe.

Organ Coro II-The Missa in F of 1734 for two or four choirs is probably Pergolesi’s most important work for choir and orchestra. The nickname 'Missa Romana' was added later in reference to a performance given in Rome during Pergolesi’s lifetime.This Urtext edition presents the work for the first time in the four-choir version that Pergolesi wrote for the above mentioned performance in Rome. Debussy’s beautiful beloved Clair De Lune was written as the third movement of his Suite Bergamasque at the turn of the last century. It was inspired by a poem of contemporary Paul Verlaine and is asignificant example of Debussy’s innovative use of key time and tonal colour. The piece has been arranged for Orchestra though not by Debussy Harp Guitar and many other instrumental combinations.Clair De Lune was composed for Piano in D flat and has here been transposed to C.

Coronation Anthem for Mixed Choir and Orchestra-Zadok The Priest HWV 258 (BA10258) and The King Shall Rejoice HWV 260 (BA10259) are the best-known of the four coronation anthems that Handel wrote for the crowning of George II in London (1727). HWV 258 accompanied the king’s anointment HWV 260 his actual coronation. Thanks to their festive and majestic structure befitting the occasion as well as their spacious scoring for Large Choir and Orchestra it comes as no surprise that motifs from Zadok the priest have found their way into the official hymn of the UEFA Champions League. Il y a très peu de gens qui ne sont pas familiers avec le Boléro de Maurice Ravel - c'est un fait saillant classique, un gem orchestrale d'unparalelled. Créé comme musique de ballet pour le danseur Ida Rubinstein en 1928, il est vite devenu populaire partout dans le monde, même si le compositeur français ne puisse pas comprendre son succès: ' J'ai écrit mais un chef-d'oeuvre : le Boléro. Malheureusement, il ne contient aucune musique ', il a dit à ses collègue compositeur Arthur Honegger. Pour transférer les variations sur le Boléro stable rythmique avec son crescendo d'au moins quinze minutes à un instrument comme l'orgue est une tâche fascinante, mais délicate. Klaus Uwe Ludwig a tenté cette expérience et présente aujourd'hui un arrangement agréable de la Bolero : une réalisation convaincante et mélodieuse pour la Reine des instruments - une expérience sonore brillante pour chaque salle de concert ou de l'église. / Orgue

The setting of Psalm no. 42 op. 42 ?Wie der Hirsch schreit nach frischem Wasser? (?As the hart pants after the waterbrooks?) for soloists mixed choir and full orchestra dates back to 1837.The well-known Mendelssohn specialist John Michael Cooper has evaluated the first printed edition of the score prepared by the composer himself as well as taking all other important sources into account.This Urtext edition is rounded off by a detailed critical commentary (Ger/Eng). Impressionné par le Faust de Goethe, Hector Berlioz décide en 1828-1829 de composer Huit Scènes sur l'oeuvre du poète allemand, puis, en 1846, entreprend d'augmenter ce premier essai et intitule désormais l'ensemble la Damnation de Faust. Cette oeuvre se trouve à mi-chemin entre l'oratorio, la symphonie et l'opéra, et illustre ce genre nouveau que le compositeur appelle lui même ' Légende dramatique '. La création qui a lieu le 6 février est elle un événement mémorable. C'est lors d'une tournée à Budapest que Berlioz décide d'y introduire cette marche populaire qu'il a orchestrée. Il ajoute ainsi à son oeuvre une scène de défilé militaire où Faust se retrouve dans une des plaines de Hongrie et pendant laquelle résonne sa Marche hongroise. / Orgue

The album contains original compositions and first publications as well as arrangements for organ and twelve pieces for communion in settings by Johann Sebastian Bach with melodies and texts appropriate to communion.
