The most important source for Bach’s Cello Suites is a copy made by his wife Anna Magdalena because the autograph is no longer extant. As further copies show the actual musical text is scarcely problematic. However theslurs which are particularly important for string instruments are very inexact and compel the editor to make difficult decisions. Henle's practical edition HN 666 is in two parts. It not only offers the Urtextedition – with preface and critical commentary – but also a part for playing. The new study edition contains the Urtext part but in addition offers a reproduction of Anna Magdalena’s copy. The Piano runs through Jean Sibelius's oeuvre like a red thread. After some first student pieces he composed the Sonata op. 12 (EB 8142) in 1893 and his first cycle of Piano pieces the Six Impromptus op. 5. Here the Finnish composer self-assuredly takes up a great romantic genre significantly shaped by Schubert and Chopin. Sibelius draws inspiration from some of his own early works in this composition yet he also uses the last two pieces from opus 5 as the groundwork for an autonomous 'Impromptu' for string orchestra which he put together shortly after completing the Piano pieces. 'You must judge me on the basis of my orchestral works. The Piano does not interest me. Itcannot sing ' said Sibelius. Yet how seriously can we take this famous quote when considering how masterfully he crossed the boundaries with his Impromptus? Pianists such as Ralf Gothoni Glenn Gould and Olli Mustonen have not let themselves be deterred by the composer's harsh self-criticism and with their interpretations have provided compelling proof of the opposite. 

Vonbulow-Lebert-The Piano Sonata No. 25 in G Major (Op. 79) was written in 1809 and first published in 1810. Sometimes referred to as the Cuckoo Sonata it is scored in three movements: Presto Alla Tedesca - Andante - Vivace. It is one of Beethoven's shorter sonatas taking only ten minutes to perform. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 1827) was a German composer and pianist and arguably the most famous composer of all time. He was the last great figure of the Classical era and helped pave the way for the Romantic style that followed. His compositions include 9 Symphonies 5 Piano Concertos 1 Violin Concerto 32 Piano Sonatas and 16 String Quartets.

8 well-known original pieces in progressive order of difficulty with practical comments-Haydn’s piano sonatas are indispensable in the moderately difficult piano repertoire not just because of their sheer playability but also because of their humour and inventiveness. In C Minor Op. 13-The ?Pathétique? marks the beginning of the publication of all Beethoven piano sonatas by Bärenreiter in scholarly-critical Urtext editions.This Sonata in C minor was his first large work in this genre and a prime example of the late 18th century sonata.
