Par BONIS MEL. C'est en 1998 que nous nous sommes plongés dans les archives musicales de Mel Bonis conservées par sa famille dans une cave. Concernant ces trois pièces, une simple chemise de partitions a été retrouvée. Elle portait la mention manuscrite : 'Trois pièces pour violon avec accompagnement de piano (orgue ou harpe), Mel Bonis, 1910.' L'ordre des morceaux, non précisé, est un choix de la présente édition, de même que la décision de publier la troisième pièce, le Largo, jugée pourtant sévèrement par l'auteur puisqu'elle avait écrit en marge du titre : 'Mauvais' ! Chacune des pièces n'existait qu'à l'état de manuscrit : conducteur et partie de violon séparée. L'Andante religioso porte la dédicace 'A mademoiselle Sophie Baudot, affectueux souvenir'. Elle est datée de 1910. L'Allegretto, également en date de 1910, est dédié 'à Raphaël Kellert'. Pour cette page, le matériel comporte des annotations et montre des signes évidents de travail en répétition. Signalons que, entre 1908 et 1913, le trio russe Kellert, dont Raphaël était le violoniste, a interprété des oeuvres de Mel Bonis dans diverses salles parisiennes. Le Largo, dont le manuscrit de violon porte également des marques de travail, est dédié 'à Paulin Gaillard'. L'Andante religioso et le Largo, plus ambitieux dans leur propos que l'Allegretto, déploient une belle ligne de violon qui échappe au genre modeste du morceau de salon et, pour ce qui concerne le Largo, cela explique notre volonté de le conserver dans le triptyque malgré les réticences dont nous avons fait état. L'Allegretto possède un charme double, celui de son temps et celui de son auteur, et il faut entendre cette notion de charme dans son acception profonde, c'est-à-dire dans la capacité de saisir et concentrer le parfum d'une époque, et de le restituer avec une puissance d'évocation qui n'appartient qu'à la musique./ Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Ravel worked on his Sonata for Violin and Piano for four years (1923?1927) which was longer than he took for any other composition. According to the composer, the reason for his difficulties was the ?fundamental incompatibility? of these two instruments. However, the interplay between two quite different partners is precisely what makes this sonata so charming. The violin and piano are independent, sometimes playing alongside each other and at other times with each other: here in a lyrical Allegretto, there in a jazz-inspired second movement, finally in a ?perpetuum mobile? finale.
This new edition edited by Douglas Woodfull-Harris corrects numerous inconsistencies of earlier editions. It also includes the ?Berceuse sur le nom de Fauré? which is available for the first time in a scholarly-critical Urtext edition. Part of the collection “Concert Solo”  Neuvième Solo is a contemporary and modern piece by Raymond Gallois Montbrun for Violin and Piano. Quite difficult this piece should prepare upper-intermediate players to play classical concertos. This really nice piece is composed of a main theme four variations and a final. The theme is quite lyrical and has an Allegretto tempo. The fourth theme stands out by its extensive use of harmonies. The Piano accompaniment also evolves based on the variations. The piece finishes on a really harmonious final. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994)was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the Paris Conservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces an opera a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano Violin and Piano and other instruments.
