Fratres (original setting for violin and piano) was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival and premiered on August 17th 1980 at that very place (violin: Gidon Kremer piano: Elena Kremer). Daniel Hope internationally acclaimed violin soloist says about the piece: 'Fratres opened up my ears in a completely new way. Recently when I recorded it I was extremely pleased about the edition by Universal Edition. A masterpiece needs an illustration that clearly depicts the composer's wishes as it was done with this piece.'Composed in Pärt's very own 'Tintinnabuli'-style this piece allows many different settings because it is not bound to aspecific klangfarbe (tone color).

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies is universally acknowledged as one of the foremost composers of our time and as he reaches his 75th birthday in 2009 he remains prolific. The sonata for violin and piano was written for the virtuoso violinist, Ilya Gringolts and first performed at the St Magnus Festival in Orkney in 2008. The work is principally concerned with Italian architecture and the music takes both performers and audience across an imaginary walkway over Rome as proposed by the architect Giuseppe Rebecchini. Starting at the 17th Century Chiesa Nuova the exceptional journey passes Renaissance churches, exhibition spaces, the river Tiber, glass façades, sculptures and even a prison where a Lazio folk tune can be heard echoing from behind the walls. Colloquy was written for Manoug Parikian and Lamar Crowson for their recital at the Cheltenham Festival in 1960.There are four concise movements. The first a fast movement with vigorous rhythmic motifs and sharp contrastsbetween sections. The second a scherzo in rondo form with lyrical episodes. In the third movement the material is at first very fragmented but then builds with cumulative effect to the climax at the end which is the mainclimax of the work. The last movement is slow and short.

in six movements-Appalachian Spring was composed in 1943-44 as a ballet for Miss Martha Graham on a commission from the Elisabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation. It was first performed by Miss Graham and her company at the Coolidge Festival in the Library of Congress Washington D.C. on October 30th 1944.

Originally written for flute and piano and commissioned by the 17th Toledo International Music Festival, Warhol in Springtime takes its name from Andy Warhol and is structured as if a painting were composed from the same image in different tonalities. It should last approximately 15 minutes, in reference to Warhol's famous phrase. The dynamics and expression of the work should be matched by both performers, flautist and pianist, as they feel it. It is dedicated to the late Ukrainian composer Nikolai Kapustin. Né en 1953 à Perpignan, Daniel Tosi est aujourd'hui compositeur et chef d'orchestre. Il obtient six premiers Prix au CNSM de Paris. Parallèlement, il accomplit des études à la Sorbonne où, après avoir réussi l'agrégation, il obtient un doctorat es lettres du Troisième cycle (mention Très Bien). Titulaire également de deux Certificats d'Aptitude (Analyse et Direction des Conservatoires Nationaux de Région), il occupe un poste d'inspecteur à la Direction de la Musique et entreprend un travail pédagogique selon sa triple activité de composition, recherche et direction d'orchestre. En 1983, Daniel Tosi obtient le Prix de Rome. Pensionnaire de la Villa Medicis jusqu'en 1985, il reçoit cette même année le prix Georges Enesco décerné par la Sacem. En 1986, il reçoit le Prix de la Villa Medicis Hors les Murs lui permettant de réaliser une oeuvre à l'étranger (Barcelone). En 1999 Daniel Tosi obtient la distinction d'Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres et, plus récemment, reçoit le prix Claude Arrieu (décerné par la Sacem) Ses oeuvres sont régulièrement jouées dans de nombreux festivals de musique contemporaine (Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Turin, Milan, La Rochelle, Bourges, Perpignan, Caen, etc) par des formations diverses ainsi que par des solistes renommés (Ensemble de l'Itinéraire, les Percussions de Strasbourg, le Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, l'ensemble Solars Vortices, TM +, Jean Lennert, Jean Geoffroy, etc) Outre ses activités de compositeur et chef d'orchestre, Daniel Tosi dirige le Conservatoire Perpignan Méditerranée depuis 1989.
